“Beyond our expectations!”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

My husband and I recently stayed for four nights to celebrate our anniversary and could not have been happier at Jenny Lake Lodge. Because of lengthy flight delays (AA), we did not arrive until 10:30pm. The front desk had a cold dinner (sandwiches and fruit) waiting for us and the bell hop got in our rental car and helped us find our cabin. When we awoke in the morning, we found the views of the Tetons to be spectacular! During our stay we hiked around Jenny Lake, rode bikes, went horseback riding and spent a day in Yellowstone. My husband and I agree that the horseback riding trail ride was the best we've ever been on. We went around String Lake and up into the mountains. The views were amazing! For our trip to Yellowstone, the concierge suggested taking a box lunch, which we enjoyed along a river in Yellowstone. Overall, we loved our rustic cabin and the five-couse dinners, and the helpful staff. We are looking forward to a return trip!

We stayed for 5 nights, thus were able to enjoy all of Jenny Lake Lodge's dinner menus. The cabins were perfect; the lines, and bathroom were top notch. You will never get these views of the Tetons from any other property. Like all travelers this summer and early fall, the forest fire smoke did mask the Tetons from time to time, however by making use of the numerous trails you can climb above the smoke and get the views that we came for. The staff was very capable and accomodating is all facets of our stay. We will definately plan to return!

We stayed here for two nights last week as part of a two week US holiday, in the Wild Rose cabin.

Staff were always very friendly, in particular the two wranglers Hannah and Megan who took us on a trail ride. (Be warned these book up very quickly so make sure to put your name down asap if you want to do one) It was a fantastic way to see the views and very easy-dont worry if you've never ridden before.

Our cabin was great-roomy with a comfy bed and lovely wood burning stove. The scenery is spectacular-much better than nearby Yellowstone in my opinion and less busy too! We went on a great bike ride all the way to Moose and back (lots of bikes at the Lodge) - on a cool cycle path away from the road. You could even go all the way to Jackson if you had the energy!

The food was good but not brilliant, but there was a fair choice of dishes each mealtime.

Overall a fantastic way to see the Grand Tetons with friendly staff and well worth the cost!

Jenny Lake Lodge is perfectly nestled at the foot of the Grand Tetons inside the GT National Park. The views all-around and the ample near by trails and such make this a perfect base for walking, hiking and general communing with nature. Then there is the food at the Lodge: in a word ... Gourmet. The dining room is an island of culinary delight. The 5 course dinner, included with some lodging packages, is worth every penny. The menu changes nightly so don't worry about getting tired of the food. Service is splendid. Breakfast, horseback riding and bicycles are also included. Take the trail ride, especially if Mary Sue and/or Hannah, are leaders. They know their stuff. This place is special.

We only stayed one night (at that price, we couldn't do more than one). We happened to be there during the forest fires recently, so the pervasive smoke certainly detracted from the views, but that's not the fault of Jenny Lake Lodge! My only real complaint was the food. Agreed, I have high standards, but at $620 a night I expected spectacular food. It wasn't. My pheasant was almost inedible. I sent it back to the kitchen (they apologized and would have brought me something else; I declined). I should have complained about the green beans served that night - they were virtually raw. I like al dente green beans, but these were not even that. I couldn't eat them. Breakfast was delicious, though - particularly the huckleberry pancakes. The cabins are definitely rustic - cute, yes; luxurious, no. No television, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Relaxing in the lobby/fireplace room was pleasant. Most people "dress" for dinner. We were unprepared for that completely! It's not required, but just be prepared for most people to be very well attired (even some men in suits).

Room Tip: Get a cabin facing the Tetons if possible (we didn't - didn't know) but the peaks were mostl...

If you can afford it, this is the way to see Grand Tetons and Yellowstone without the hassle and inconvenience of the thousands of tourists packing into the parks. Small tours if you want them, side roads and some of the best food you'll find anywhere. It's hard to explain how a small cabin can have every amenity you could possibly want, fantastic service, room for everything -- right in the wilderness, alway from the campgrounds and close to some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. Your cabin may be plush but simple but the food is delicious -- 5 course dinners (not over the top) including vegetarian selections, packed lunches if desired, really nothing is too much to ask. We loved every minute and will come back -- and we aren't usually visit again travelers.

Room Tip: Any of the cabins are excellent -- all well within walking distance of the main lodge for dining.

We recently had a multi-night visit to JLL and ended our stay with such a mixed reaction. Had good expectations - this was a special trip celebrating a significant birthday. Our reaction was very similar to other ratings - fantastic location, unique experience, good food but wearing after several days, poor customer service, delivery of basic services such as a functioning toilet and wi-fi was not met, and then, to top it off - received a very disappointing response during stay from staff and after stay from manager.

I filled out the post-visit survey and wasn't sure if I were insulted or humored by the nonsensical response from the manager. Rather than spending my time responding to him, I looked at the tripadvisor reviews again and saw the same response posted back to most everyone. I'm amazed the standard response puts the responsibility for managing expectations squarely back on the customer.

Our toilet didn't work - it leaked, filled constantly after flushing - and then wouldn't flush again, activated with noisy running water during the night, etc. We let the front desk know our first evening, next morning and the following day at our departure. Nothing was ever addressed during our stay. Despite the comfy, cozy bed and room we couldn't sleep as we were woken multiple times throughout the nights by the running water. (I liked the room - had lived outside the US for several years so found the small size very comfortable and relaxing)

I just saw a prior comment on the attitude of the front desk staff and that was exactly the same reaction we got - didn't care, didn't respond, didn't follow through. I think having a functioning toilet in a room at any rate is an entirely reasonable expectation. Meeting that expectation should be a given for JLL - instead it was totally disregarded. Also saw a previous comment on the poor wi-fi service - for us it was non-existent in the room and was too weak to make a connection in the lobby. JLL shouldn't advertise that they offer wi-fi since it doesn't work on the property.

After re-reading the reviews after the trip, I now understand a comment the server made at one breakfast. We were seated at the window and the server commented on us having a great seat - must not be our first visit. We just thought that was a space-filler comment but based on previous reviews, that must be an expectation that the first-time guests be given the front room spots.

For other reviewers commenting on giving JLL a chance with a multi-night stay, we did that and were glad to move onto our next destination. Having multi-nights with a non-functioning, noisy toilet and a staff that made no reaction just was not any fun

Glad we visited but certainly will seek other accomodations for our next trip and won't recommend this location to anyone

Dear SSSTripReview,

Thank you for staying at Jenny Lake Lodge. I'm glad to hear that you liked the fantastic location, unique experience and good food. I am very sorry to hear that you did not receive the response you were expecting during or after your stay in regards to the running toilet. I can assure you that your experience of not getting a quick, gracious and helpful response was not typical or up to our standards. Leaky toilets happen but normally this sort of thing is rectified quickly once we are notified of it. We obviously dropped the ball this time and I hope you will accept our sincere apologies. Visitors of the National Parks should be aware that technology such as TVs, cell phone reception and wifi are often not available in many of these parks. Most of our guests appreciate being somewhat disconnected while visiting the park. However, we do recognize that staying connected is essential for some and have made wifi available in both our cabins and main lodge for the convenience of our guests. You will not find blazing download speeds as you do in metropolitan areas but most of our guests find it adequate for sending and receiving emails which serves the purpose of keeping them connected as needed. Thank you again for staying with us and providing this valuable feedback. We will use it to improve the experience for our future guests. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Kind regards,
Scott Greene
