“Room with a (priceless) view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2013

Our two night stay at the Jackson Lake Lodge was well along in our travels across the USA to the Grand Teton/Yellowstone area, and one we were looking forward to as we had splurged for a Mountain View Cottage. We were given room #365, far off to the left side of the resort, and on the second floor end. Loved the location. The view of the Tetons from the picture window did not disappoint (see photo attached)! Phenomenal! What a way to wake up in the morning! We also had a very nice balcony where I took photos of the Tetons at sunrise while sipping coffee (coffeemaker in the room). We were two adults and two children, the room had two queen beds and the room felt sufficiently big. It was not plush, but this is a cabin in a national park after all. There was no TV (we didn't mind!), but did have a small refrigerator and bar/ sink area outside the bathroom, which was convenient.

We ate one night at the Pioneer Grill (50's style diner) in the main lodge, and the special that night was a chef's choice pork belly. Not typical for a diner, but very nicely prepared and delicious. Of course, the kids had mac 'n cheese and a bison burger, which they also said were very good. The second night we attended the poolside BBQ buffet. I don't know where they sourced the beef brisket, but it was fantastic! Plenty of hearty food. We had two staff attending us who were from Spain, and the service was very good. There was also a musician playing live music.

For those looking to see wildlife or a sunset behind the lodge, but not wanting to stand with all the other guests on the main patio, follow the path that goes to the right (north) of the lodge and it goes up the hill to a really nice viewing area. Great place to be alone at sunrise!

We had an unfortunate incident in the middle of our two night stay not related to the Lodge (our car broke down and had to be towed to Jackson 30 miles away). When the staff, led by Director of Hotel Services Zachary Meyers, found out about our problem, they went above and beyond to assist including arranging a ride to the Jackson airport to obtain a rental car. We were very thankful for their help. We look forward to going back to the Jackson Lake Lodge (or their other property the Jenny Lake Lodge) on our next visit to the area!

Room Tip: We had room 365, 2nd floor end room with fantastic view of Tetons and the elk tend to congregate in...

We stayed at a cabin across from the Lodge but had breakfast and dinner in the Mural Room.
The cabins are sparse and in need of a little TLC but were clean and convenient. The MuralRoom is a sight to behold. Someone once said the view of the Tetons' is better from the inside and I tend to agree. Breakfast buffet is pretty standard and dinner is very good, if a little pricey. But the view...

Room Tip: Make sure and see if the room has what you need. We went with the relatively inexpensive standard c...

The upstairs lobby is just what we expected...rustic with a beautiful view of the Tetons. We enjoyed the shops, 50's style diner and coffee bar as well as the bar/lounge which graciously served our family in the lobby as we enjoyed the view. Our "Classic Cottage" was spacious and that is the only nice thing I can say about our accommodations. While we were not expecting a luxury cottage, it is a "Lodge" after all, we were expecting everything to be clean. Dirty floors, cobwebs, dirty ceiling fan, empty soap and shampoo containers were just a few of the issues we had with our cottage. We politely informed EVERY LODGE EMPLOYEE that crossed our path of our need for soap, even calling the front desk multiple times. It was not until we got ugly and demanded soap and that our floors be cleaned that someone came to our cottage to resolve these issues. The common thread through out the Lodge is an apathetic teenage staff. The staff is either improperly trained or there is simply no standards set. Most likely it is a combination of the two. In spite of these difficulties, our family had a good time in the area.

Room Tip: Expect rustic...it's better than camping!

The lobby of this hotel has a very rustic feel and a gorgeous view - I wonder why hotels are not consistent with their interiors?

We checked in to our double -bedded room in the late afternoon and were dismayed to find it stuffy, (even though the windows were open) and tired with a dirty window view overlooking a roof top and windows of our neighbors. The decor is quite forgettable, perhaps a throwback to the 60's and the bathroom furnished with thin towels and wall-dispenser body wash, shampoo and conditioner. I prefer soap at the sink and in the shower.

Since there is no air conditioning the bathroom would become really steamy which was very aggravating when 3 people are trying to get ready to go out. Thank goodness for the overhead ceiling fan since the evening temps did not dip low enough to cool the room.

The electrical sockets were all too loose- our plugs fell right out of the wall and we took turns using the gfi outlet in the bathroom which was the only new one in the room.

We chose the breakfast buffet one morning and were disappointed that the scrambled eggs were not fresh, but powdered. Honestly, why would a restaurant ever choose that option? We ordered eggs from our server and it took awhile, and then they arrived over and out. What can I say?

It would appear that more modern improvements could be implemented, starting with air conditioning the hotel. The rooms could really use a facelift and the dining brought up a notch. The view is not a compensation for everything else.

My husband and I stayed one night on July 27, 2013. We had a "Teton View" patio cabin for a total of $279.72. The travel agent we used had been told that the room had been updated and was very nice. It was awful.
Our room was not ready when we checked in at 4:00 p.m. because it was being "cleaned." Twenty minutes later the room was waiting on the inspector to confirm that it was clean and ready. No one could have inspected this room for cleanliness. The entrance to the room had cobwebs and dirt outside - the same as the inside. Cobwebs were in the corners and hanging from the ceiling in numerous locations, one huge web right over the bed. Every horizontal surface was dusty and dirty. Window sills, coffee maker, condiment tray, chairs, all hadn't been cleaned for a long time. We wouldn't walk on the carpeting and the bathroom floor was filthy. There were clean towels, but the king bed, which bowed in the middle, had bottom sheet, top sheet, and blanket - no spread or any blanket protector. There were no Comment Cards anywhere, even at the front desk when we notified them about the filthy room. What management doesn't want to know the customers' ratings of the accommodations? Very telling. Though we were credited $70.00 off the room cost, we feel the Grand Teton Lodge Company management needs to spend the night in one of their cabins that has been cleaned and inspected - and pay $210 for the opportunity. We know we won't.

Dramatic location, spacious room, comfortable bed, good hot water and a wonderful breakfast (buy the Bed and Breakfast package).

You can't beat the location of this lodge. The grand lobby has a direct view of the Tetons! The bar, indoor and outdoor, has the right finger food to accompany a good micro-brew while watching the sunset on the magnificent peaks.

Yes, the lodge is old (but well maintained), but the television-less room was very comfortable. There is no A/C but the temp goes down in the 40's at night in July. There is a double sink in our room (522), and the hot water was good and as refreshing as the mountain streams it came from. There is plenty of storage room, including a tall dresser and bookcase if you have a lot of hiking and camping stuff.

The breakfast in this hotel is outstanding. Beautiful Mural dining room, hot foods including bacon and sausage; also Cheese blintzes and individually prepared waffles. They brought me some plain yogurt when the breakfast bar had only the fruity kinds.

Breakfast at this wonderful hotel is truly a treat. Hats off to the vendor, and the National Parks for preserving such a superior lodge. I just hope that the funds for the parks and not cut in our rush to control the debt! Future generations was be missing a unique American experience.

Room Tip: 522 was on the edge of the property and had a nice patio.

We were here with a Tauck Tour for 2 nights. The rooms are lodges- comfortable and clean.
Watch the tub- there is no non slip surface. Hang on to the grapbar. They have a ceiling fan above the bed- no a/c. Windows do open. Have a small sitting area outside your cabin. No TV, but they do have WiFi access if you bring your iphone or laptop. In the lodge upstairs they have I think 5 desktops that you can work from. The lodge is beautiful- 2 restaurants- The Mural room for more extensive fine fare and the low keyed Pioneer Room for sandwiches. The food here has been delicious. Beautiful woodsey surroundings- a great get away place located in the heart of this beautiful national park.

Room Tip: We stayed in the 100's lodges. If anyone has physical disabilities I would recomment staying to...
