“Grand Teton Lodge Company Lunch River Float”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2011

This was a great way for us to spend the last full day in Grand Teton National Park. We went on the 11:30 AM Lunch River Float. We met at the Jackson Lake Lodge at 11:15 and were taken by a shuttle bus to the put-in point. Our driver (sorry, his name eludes me) was great, giving us interesting information as we drove. Once we got there, we were treated to a fantastic lunch of grilled burgers and hot dogs with all the fixings, plus potato salad, cut up fruit, coleslaw, water, coffee, lemonade and brownies/cookies to die for! Restrooms were available! We sat on picnic tables alond side the river with the Tetons in the background (see attached pics). The food service crew were enthusiastic and very pleasant! GTLC is run by Vail Resorts, who do things first class!

Once lunch was done, we boarded our raft, which are a version of the old military pontoon boats. Perfectly comfortable. Our primary guide was Jenny, who was assisted by the rudder man Braden. Both were extremely pleasant. Jenny was very informative, pointing out the history of the region, and the highlights along the way. We had 3 bald eagles sightings.

This is a float, so there are no rapids! Know that going in! It took about 2 hours to go the 10 miles from the put-in point to Moose, where the trip, unfortunately, ended. Our same driver picked us all up, and when the restrooms there at the take-out point were closed for cleaning, he drove us all over the Craig-Thomas Visitor Center so those that needed to, could make a pit stop. On the way back, we saw a moose as we crossed the bridge. While he could not stop (due to traffic), our driver did his best to "crawl" along so everyone could see it.

This is not a cheap trip, but worth the investment! A great alternative way to see GTNP!

“One of the best views of the Tetons from horseback!”

We are experience riders and have taken scenic rides in many places. This was one of the best guides we've ever had. Highly recommend the stables at Jackson Lake Lodge!

“Grand Teton Lodge Company Dinner Float”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2011

The was our second time to do the Dinner Float with Grand Teton Lodge Company, out of Jackson Lake Lodge. Our first time was two years ago, we loved it and wanted to try again. Our second trip didn't disappoint! We met in the Jackson Lake Lodge lobby and we were met by our skipper and bus driver. We were taken down to the Snake River to an area set up for dinner. Bathroom Facilities were able at the dinner site. We met many families with children from10 and up from all over the U.S. Dinner consist of steak, trout, corn on cob, mashed potatoes, beans, salad and dinner rolls. A dessert of fruit cobbler was served after dinner. They packed up and then we went down the Snake River. Our navigator, Jenny, was an amazing and fun person to talk to and filled with info on the park and our surroundings. She was quick to pick out the eagles(we saw four!), beaver and the moose we saw on the trip. The float down the river took about an hour and a half. Perfect for the 10 year old, a young adult, two adults and one senior in our group. We look forward to going on the float dinner trip on our next visit!

“Beautiful nature. Long and boring ride.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2010

We truly enjoyed the scenery trip of the 10.5 mile in the Snake River. The four hours trip under the direct sun heat was little bit too much. The 7 kids who were on the boat with us got bored to death. Our backs spasmed and stiffened from the uncomfortable ride on the edge of the boat with no back support to lean on.
It could be better experience if it was only two hours instead of four.
(We bought the tickets from Jackson Lake Lodge activities desk)

I believe that this reviewer is mistaken in thinking that he was on a Barker-Ewing Float Trip.
He mentions having booked his reservation through the Jackson Lake Lodge Activities Desk. The Lodge Co. operates its own float trips, most of which are on the upper, 10.5 mile stretch of the Snake River which takes longer to float, having a slower current. Barker-Ewing operates on the lower 10-mile section from Deadman's Bar to Moose with an average floating time of about two hours. (Both sections of the Snake River are within Grand Teton National Park.) Further, the Lodge Co. often carries passengers on 22-foot pontoon rafts, which have no back support. In our Barker-Ewing rafts, passengers may choose to sit down on the carpeted, inflated floor mat and lean back against the side of the raft which provides comfortable back support.
