“Great campground - walk to lake in 1 minute”
Reviewed August 30, 2012

I chose this location for its easy access to Yellowstone, lower elevation (warmer at night), and great views next to the lake. We arrived on a Wednesday mid afternoon in late August, and were surprised that half the sites were taken. Most of the sites at Lizard Creek Campground are great - adjacent to the lake or adjacent to the forest. My girlfriend and I were able to take a walk into the forest with our portable shower and strip down to nothing and shower in privacy, just a few minutes from our tent. (No shower facilities here). It was 20 minutes into Yellowstone.

The site did fill up 100% by late afternoon, however was half empty the following day. If you arrive by 2pm, you should be fine. We left on a Friday which was strangely empty. The facilities were clean - flush toilets.

We had a large tent and the ground was perfect - flat, easy to place and remove stakes. Bear box, picnic table. Overall, I would come back to this spot in a heartbeat.

Lizard Creek is the northern most CG in the park. It's also the quietest. Many of its sites are practically on the water. The views are great. Drift wood is plentiful for camp fires. A mother grizzly and her cub were rumored to be in the area, but I never saw them. All encounters with them had been peaceful.

Room Tip: Get there early to get a site with a water view.

I've lived and worked in the area for several years. This is my campground of choice. You're to the north of the Teton range, so the view isn't the panoramic view, however, you're right on the lake, it's a quiet campground, and you're away from the bustling of the park, but close enough to easily dip down to Colter Bay or any of the other lodges and restaurants within 15-20 minutes. I've stayed here several times and have always had a great stay, and great sleep! This campground is well spaced out and quiet! Jenny is also beautiful, but I'd recommend Lizard Creek because you still have a great view without the mad dash for a site.

After 4 nights in Yellowstone, Lizard Creek was the quiet escape from reality my family was looking for! We will dream of coming back to this campground. The only disappointment was no dish sink and the bathroom sinks had faucets that would not work for dish washing. (Faucet to low to the sink"
If you want peace and quiet................. this is what you will get.
It was very convenient to all the Teton Sights. My family can't wait to go back!

This campsite was lovely, spots are secluded and have plenty of space between campers. Great to wake up to birdsong. Jackson lake is nearby a short walk to get there but not the best view of it. Its a first come, first served booking system (no pre-booking). Excellent value at about £15 a night. (We were in an RV and stayed in June.)

Room Tip: Arrive early its first come first served

After all the positive Jenny Lake Campground reviews, we were going to make that our home for a few nights before heading out to the backcountry. When we drove around Jenny Lake Campground, we couldn't understand what all the glowing reviews were about. Only a few sites had Teton views and it looked crowded with small sites.
We took the drive to Lizard Creek and it was the complete opposite. Quiet, well spaced out wooded sites with beautiful views. We were in site 15 which had lake views through the trees and a path that lead down to the lakeshore. Some sites are right on the lake with unobstructed views. The 2 nights we were there in the 3rd week in august the campground was about 75% full. It is a little far from the Jenny Lake area so you have to drive for some of the popular trail heads, but it's worth it to come back to such a relaxing camp!
