Owner description: A 5-mile scenic mountain drive.
Reviewed July 28, 2013

The views from the peak of Signal Mountain are beautiful, but the access road - while paved - is too narrow, long and twisted to venture up unless you are taking an extended visit to the region.

Worse, even though the sign at the base of the road states campers and trailers are not permitted, some people get it in their minds to drive their "little" RVs all the way up, creating roadblocks and hazards for those in cars.

Overall, the drive and RV roadblocks added an extra hour to our visit that could have been better spent elsewhere in the park or at Yellowstone.

If you are just taking the tram up and down the mountain, you will get some great views. However, if you plan an extended hike be sure to get a good topo map. The trails are very poorly marked and it is easy to get lost.
Heed ALL the safety warnings.

It's a few mile drive to the overlook. When you walk up to the placard, you see some nice views, but keep walking out on the trail about 50-75 feet further for a spectacular view of Jackson Lake and the Tetons...spectacular!!!!

Roll down the windows and enjoy the views! This drive to the top of signal mountain is magnificent. The views on the actual way up the mountain are rather woodsy, but keep your eyes peeled for wildlife. We saw several deer, birds, and all sorts of animals on both the way up and the way down. At the top you will be rewarded with beautiful views of the Teton area. Make. The. Trip.

There's no reason to not do this. You can drive (a short drive) all the way to the top and you get to see magnificent views. I attached some photos to exemplify.

You don't only get to see the view of the Tetons but a great view of the large valleys surrounding the Tetons and Signal Mountain. The view of the Tetons is better than the one you see from the road because being at a higher altitude you also get to see Jackson Lake right in front of the mountains. There are two stops on the road, one with better views of the valleys and one with the magnificent views of Jackson Lake and the Tetons.

For me this is a must do. It's a low effort, high reward activity. I would definitely do it again on a future trip to the park.
