I was fortunate to spend two summers in Colter Bay. If you take a walk on any of the trails towards Jackson
Lake you will find a bit of paradise. For the more adventurous the Hermitage trail takes you to the shoreline where you may see someone else but you are defiantly away from the crowd. The views are spectacular.
This village has all of the amenities. There is a visitor center, a gift shop, general store, hotel, cabins, a marina, and campground. There was actually a pretty decent amount of parking here. This is a busy area so there was a lot of traffic, but this is my favorite visitor's center in Grand Teton.
This was a great place we stumbled up on looking for a great place to take sunset pictures. Wow, what a view. They have a great restaurant where we got a great dinner. My husband got the fish of the day, rainbow trout, which he said was delicious. I had the ribs which were also delicious. They had a salad bar which featured soups and chili. They had a full bar with several local beers on tap. We recommend Moose Droll which is a great little beer from Montana. Their cocktails were very nice. The meal was reasonably priced and the service was excellent. The gift shop had one of the best selections of nice gift items, not the typical junk you see in Jackson. They also have cabins here. We did not stay, but one lady that was staying said they were clean and nice, but bring your own hair dryer. We returned another day and went into the visitors center. They had a great selection of books and other gift items. The day were were there, they had a local native American jewelry maker in the lobby selling handmade items which were very reasonably priced.
The tent cabins are cheap, the water nearby, views gorgeous, and the general store has an amazing array of what you need. Far enough from Jackson yet close enough to Yellowstone.
Perfect spot. We went before 10 am and experienced calm waters and few boaters.
Were able to see waterfowl and just enjoy the scenery of the Tetons. Excellent photography opportunity. Did some hiking afterward. Make sure you include this for water sports activity.
Visitor' center was crowded and toilets had lines. The stores were average at best. But I would stop; again just for information.
