Highly recommend the cruises on the lake! Close up views of Mt Moran & other peaks, well maintained... read more
The view of the Grand Tetons was spectacular!! However, the trail ride went past a water treatment plant for much of the first part of the ride. Is there possibly another trail they could use? That just seemed odd. The wranglers were excellent, very nice horses, and other than the trail location it was lovely.
Wharf for boats. Sitting on the deck, what a beautiful picture. Looking at the golden sunshine on the top of the mountain, a day slipped by. I noticed there was some water activity available but didn't pay attention because of the view.
Many food options (2 seasonal restaurants. 1 store), nice visitor center, nice hike and peaceful lake
The view of the Grand Tetons from the Colter Bay marina is spectacular. It makes you want to get out on the water immediately and explore. We chose a canoe and were given a paper (not waterproof) map and directions to hug the shoreline coming and going.
The canoe ride was fun, and would have been still more enjoyable if it had not been for two things: boat wakes and some bilge in the harbor water. Since people bring their own power boats and can also rent power boats, there is a lot of activity leaving and entering the harbor. There was also a tour boat which came and went a couple of times. While there is supposed to be no wake created by boats for a certain distance, several boaters did not respect the signs, forcing us to turn the canoe's direction multiple times to avoid being swamped.
In addition, there must have been some boat owners who were not operating their pumping systems properly, because on the return trip into the harbor, it was just gross.
Jackson Lake is an amazing lake. Perhaps the park should ban motorized boating, except for properly licensed and monitored park/tour boats, before the Colter Bay harbor, and eventually the lake, is ruined.
Great village!! It has everything needed to have a great camping trip and/or vacation. Installations are clean and everything is available at the gift shop and grocery store.
We stayed in Colter Bay Campsite and paid $30.00 for our own camping bay which had a table with benches, a defined BBQ spot, and shared bathrooms.
Showers were located near the visitors centre and cost $4.25 per person.
The visitor centre is well done and has friendly staff who will give you all the information you'll need.
Parking is plentiful and free.
There are several hikes (short and long) that leave from the visitor centre so don't miss out.
