The historic cabins are atmospheric with a rustic charm but a few simple additions would make a big difference. Carpets on a cold floor would make a world of difference and servicing of the rooms should really be standard. The restaurant had already started to go into hibernation, severely understaffed and menu depleted because no supplies. The food when it eventually arrived was well cooked and tasty. It is a shame that such a wonderful location does not treat tourists a little better - it does not put American hospitality in the best light.

Room Tip: Many of the cabins are a long way from the restaurant - choose numbers in 200's or 400's. Ch...

This place is located in the center of Grand Teton NP. Going anywhere within the park is convenient from Colter Bay. The cabins are simple, but clean and comfortable enough. The people at the front desk are friendly and helpful. And if you're traveling towards Yellowstone, this place is in a convenient location. I like staying here because I can spend more time in the national parks, rather than spending time in my car driving to the destinations in the national parks. Of course if you're on a honeymoon, stay at the Four Seasons at Jackson Hole instead!

We went to the Grand Tetons this month and were very disappointed with the accommodations on the parks; both Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. We highly recommend staying off the park and driving in and the reasons include: 1) it's much cheaper to stay off the park; 2) you have more options outside the park; and 3) the hotels and restaurants outside the park are much more accommodating and thankful for your business.
What we learned from our trip is that Yellowstone is all contracted out to a company called Xanterra, so they manage all of the lodges, restaurants, etc within the park - so there is zero competition. The Grand Teton Lodge Company manages everything on the Grand Teton National Park. That said, there is no competition for business and therefore the prices are VERY high for what you get.
Also, we decided to go in mid-September to avoid large crowds and children; we are in our 30's and have no kids. That said, we arrived to find out that most restaurants, gift shops, etc. are closed. It would have been nice to have been informed of this prior to our visit - then maybe we could have adjusted our plans. Also, we knew that water levels were low this season, but no one said the bay was completely dry! Apparently the bay was drained to assist the Idaho farmers due to drought conditions this past year. That would have been nice to know. However, once there, you can't cancel your reservations without losing your money - so essentially they trap you there. The restaurants at Colter Bay were closed, so we had to drive to get to a restaurant...not exactly what we had in mind after long days of sightseeing.
Regarding the cabins, they are cute looking but the floors weren't swept and you hear EVERYTHING from your neighbors...besides hearing their conversations like they are talking in your room...it also sounds like they are going to the bathroom in your room...not pleasant for paying $155/night.
Lastly, the staff is very ungrateful. When you arrive, there is no friendly greeting - it's just all business to them. When you leave, you hand it the keys and don't even get a "thanks for staying with us, hope to see you again", instead, you get a hand out to grab the keys. Thanks but no thanks. We highly recommend that you stay outside the park - we really enjoyed Gardiner, MT and West Yellowstone, MT!

The cabins were ok but could perhaps do with a few more items to help make for a more comfortable stay. I appreciate that you were supposed to understand what the original cabins were like but the addition of one decent ceiling light would make for a more convenient stay. Very little hanging space and no hooks on the wall would be most inconvenient for a larger group sharing a cabin - there were only two of us so it wasn't too big a problem. Hot water ran out on the second morning after just one regular length shower. I think some investment is required in the place. The restaurant could not provide hot tea and the excuse was that it was almost the end of the season. Our group numbered four and we were there for three nights but no one thought to get us some tea bags so we got our own. Otherwise the service was good.

Colter Bay cabins are clean and comfortable and very affordable. The village offers several different cabin options; some with shared baths, some with private baths. I stayed in both, and while there was never a problem "sharing" the bath, I preferred having my own. The decor in the cabins is rustic; the accommodations are basic, but adequate. The walls are thin between units and conversations can be heard in the adjoining "cabin." However, quiet hours are respected and the nights are quiet. There are no TV's in the village, but who needs TV's when the setting outside is so extraordinary? The cabins sit on a hillside above Jackson Lake, and the village includes a visitors center, laundry, a ranch house restaurant, a marina that was not in service because of low water on the lake, and a general store that is surprisingly well stocked and reasonable. Colter Bay is a great place for families, and they will accept pets (at an extra cost). The location is an hour's beautiful drive from Jackson and near Yellowstone's south entrance.
I also have to mention the wonderful staff! All were friendly and courteous, and it was fun to meet young people from all over the world and retirees from around the US. I will definitely go go back to stay at Colter Bay again.

Room Tip: Cabins that sit higher on the hill have less light from the public parking lot near the restaurant.

The bathroom was in terrible condition. The tile needed replaced. The outside lighting was bad. When returning after dark we had to use a flashlight to find walkway. The cabin was spacious. We found the servicing to be poor.

Felt somewhat isolated without WiFi and Cable. All other amenities in the area are great! Lake was extremely low and with no useable launch ramps. Great hiking. We camped in a 35' fifth wheel. Would stay again.
