“The room is OK, I guess...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2014

The Kachina Lodge is just OK. It is nothing like a resort, so don't expect much. The room looks like a college dorm. The cinder block walls really make it look like a college dorm or maybe a nice state prison. The bathroom was small but clean. The towels were like sandpaper which is a major problem. The toilet needs a power flush type thing. The beds were good for a motel / lodge. The drapes were stained and screamed 70's. The picture framed looked nice, but were caked in dust which is gross. The check in at the El Tovar is a pain in the behind. The Kachina is not staffed so if you have a problem, have a nice 7 min walk to the El Tovar front desk. If you can, stay at El Tovar...

Room Tip: stay away from the doors that lead out of the motel.

I recently spent two nights at Kachina Lodge. A mid-century building, it lacks charm (and a lobby/concierge/dining room/gift shop/front desk---you even check in at El Tovar next door), but it does offer comfy beds, well-appointed bathrooms, a mini-fridge, safe, Keurig with cream & sugar, and a view of the canyon (although honestly it's easier to step outside than peer through a window screen. No balconies here). It's in the middle of the action, right on the rim. Parking anywhere in the area is a challenge…be warned and be patient.

Room Tip: First floor rooms with a canyon view will offer a steady stream of hikers/tourists right by your win...

Our room was very nice. We had a partial view of the canyon which was a treat. The beds were comfy and keurig beverages are provided in the rooms. It was nice to not have to drive anywhere after spending the day at the park

Wow. Xanterra runs this hotel and they do a fantastic job of the entire deal. Wait staff are courteous, nice and helpful. Rooms are nice (renovated), clean, OK view (if you get view side). Quiet (parking not so good). Price a bit high but when you consider you're at the Grand Canyon it's pretty much acceptable - in fact it could be so much more as could prices everywhere else here at this "resort" even the gift shop. Food is great (at Tovar and Angel Bright). A real class act.

Room Tip: View is of a portion of the canyon.

Even a hotel snob can enjoy staying within the boundaries of the National Park at Grand Canyon. Kachina Lodge looks more like a bad college dorm, but the view of the Canyon from your room beats any 5 star lobby and restaurant. One HUGE piece of advice: bring your own paper products (nose and toilet), as the eco-friendly brands supplied are not skin-lovers.

Room Tip: reserve a room with a view - it's the reason you are there.

A lodge at the rim of the Grand Canyon is something special, worth the extra cost, if any.
The lodge at the rim saves a lot of driving time, makes walking along the rim easier, and dining a simple task even when snowing! And yes, the Grand Canyon is gorgeous with the snow.

Room Tip: Spend a few more and get a room that looks at the Canyon

Thanks to tips from previous TA reviews, we found the check in quickly at El Tovar. Room was much nicer than expected, considering the reviews. We booked a partial view, but it was magnificent and convenient to both ElTovar and to Bright Angel Lodge and trailhead. Excellent food with first day of new menu. Parking was the only frustration... Since we were across the lot from the worker dormitories... I got the feeling there had to be some parking misuse!
