Kachina Lodge

We were very pleased with the room size and location. Note: check in is at the El Tovar and you have to go outside of the building to get to and from the two lodges. We ate and the Bright Angel Lodge...decent food at reasonable price.

We loved staying here for several reasons:
1) You are right in the middle of everything - 3 minutes one way and you are at the El Tovar Lodge with gift shops, restaurants and a great lobby to hang out in. 3 minutes the other way you are at Bright Angel Lodge with more restaurants and great views.
2) Easy access to the bus system - there was a bus stop right in front of the hotel
3) Amazing views - our "partial view" was basically a straight on view of the canyon. From our back window to the canyon rim was about 20 yards.
4) Nice rooms - nothing amazing but a nice room that had a fridge and coffee maker in the room

We would stay here again in a heartbeat - you get all the views and amenities but is cheaper than El Tovar.

Room Tip: The entire national park sells no bottled waters - bring youur own refillable bottle as they have re...

This is a great location next to El Tovar, which is the check-in location (3 minute walk). However, park at Kachina or as close as possible before going to the front desk. If you can get there at 11:00-1:00 when others are leaving. If you drive to the El Tovar circle or lot you will get traffic. WE reserved in Feb. for Oct. and got a partial view which looked full to me from our second floor room. The bed and room were similar to a Marriott room, but it was a little smaller. We sat on our bed and could see the canyon straight on. We had a refrig and and a Kurig coffee maker, a nice flat screen. I'll come here again.

Room Tip: Call ahead and ask for a second floor room if you have booked a partial view.

My wife and I stayed at the Kachina Lodge for two nights, and we can confirm that the South Rim location is ideal. The Kachina is between El Tovar and Bright Angel , but wonderfully more private and unidentified to the public. We have never been lodged so centrally in a National Park, yet the crowds of visitors did not seem to know the Kachina existed. In this case, the lack of in-house dining facilities is a definite plus. The rooms are not huge, but their recent refurbishment has made them very comfortable. All the amenities were provided in the bath, and the bed was very comfortable. As far as accommodations are concerned, we prefer the Kachina to the dated rooms at El Tovar. Of course, the dining experience at El Tovar is well worth it. Even in brisk November weather, it is a short, pleasant walk along the rim to the restaurant at El Tovar. The food and service there are outstanding. If you prefer a more casual, family atmosphere, try the restaurant at the Bright Angel Lodge.
We must add that all of the personnel at GCNP from receptionists to servers to shuttle drivers to maintenance were polite, professional, and efficient.

Room Tip: Do not worry about a room with a view. Everyone has a magnificent view as soon you exit the lodge.

Stayed two nights at the Kachina. The location on the rim was great and extremely convenient to the shuttles and other lodges especially at 6am when we took a bus to see the sunrise at one of the viewpoints. The elk and the deer on the grass at night was an extra bonus.

The hotel is in a great position on the South rim of the canyon, right next door to the Tovar. We stayed in a canyonside room, which we found perfectly comfortable and clean and of course with a fabulous view.

We took our meals in the Tovar where we found the food and service excellent. Other less expensive eateries are avaiable locally e.g. at the Bright Angel Hotel.

Overall a wonderful stay. It's worth the extra money to stay within the National Park, on the rim and watch the sun set over the canyon from the Tovar's terraces with a cold beer in hand.

First I must state that we were originally booked to be in another lodge a distance from the rim because every place was booked. We we arrived at the Grand Canyon, we went over to see the canyon and decided to go into the El Tovar Hotel to see if there were any cancellations. We just missed out by seconds from getting a room with view at the El Tovar. However there was a room available in the Kachina Lodge next door. It was a modern room with very comfy beds. Bathroom has all products in dispense bottles. Not ideal but the products were excellent. Blush towels, WiFi and TV. We walked out our door and there was the Grand Canyon in all its splendor. The building was quiet and very convenient.

Room Tip: If you don't like your booking, call and check on cancellations or better yet show up at the El...
