“Beyond Beautiful and Awesome Location!”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

6 months ago I decided to plan a trip to the Grand Canyon and completely stumbled upon the Bright Angel Lodge. A double room with no shower was all that was left to reserve even 6 months in advance! I will say we got extremely lucky with this reservation!! We got a room in the Powell Lodge building and it was just so cute and just perfect in every way. It's not the fanciest place you will ever stay, but the room is nice and clean and the shared shower was actually very nice. They are private little rooms with an individual shower, not like a locker room. The location cannot be beat!! Your 'backyard' literally is the Grand Canyon! There is a bar in the lodge which doubles as a coffee shop opening at 5:30am each morning. It's a self-serve breakfast and it worked out awesome. Wasn't even a bad deal! All the other lodges are right around the Bright Angel as well and the location on the Rim Trail is just fantastic. You cannot go wrong with this place!

Room Tip: Do not be afraid of the 'Shared Shower' it's not bad at all as it's a personal room...

We stayed here on the occasion of my wife's birthday, as part of our 3 week trip to USA. We stayed in one of the excellently-located cabins directly overlooking the rim, 20m away. Obviously the Grand Canyon is awesome (especially great at sunset & sunrise) but we were pleasantly surprised with the accommodation, which exceeded our admittedly cautious expectations. The cabin was simply, rustically furnished but clean & cosy, with TV, comfy bed and decent bathroom, and the free WiFi actually worked! We didn't try the bar in the evening since we had booked to dine at El Tover (being a special occasion), a short walk away, but it looked OK, with live music. We were lucky enough to be able to find a parking spot close to the cabin but this may be a potential problem during busy times, and there was some refurbishment work to the access roads going on around the area but this didn't overly disrupt us. The shuttle buses are a great way to get around to the various trails along the rim.

The Bright Angel Lodge was OK but I am not impressed with the group that run all of the accommodations in the Grand Canyon National Park called Xanterra. I had a very disappointing experience a while ago while staying in the Xanterra run lodge at Yellowstone National Park and I guess this clouded my judgement. The staff were friendly but not exceptional, the food was average, the rooms were dated and average - but of course as Xanterra has a monopoly on all of the accommodation in the park there is nowhere else to choose from. They could certainly do with a little competition to improve the standard.

Room Tip: See if you can get a room with a view of the rim - a lot of the cabins are back down the hill.

We stayed in one of the cabins at the front with a view of the Grand Canyon. The interior was a bit worn and rustic, but a good size, and overall very nice due to the fireplace. All the staff were friendly and helpful, and to our surprise the dining room, where we had dinner, was very good. Simple, unpretentious and quite reasonably priced. Elk were wandering about the property at night which was ,and based on the piles outside our room in the morning, we were lucky not to have run into one!
Due to some construction improvements the parking area at the end of the cabins was closed but we got lucky and found a spot in front of the office so we didn't have to park in the street. The construction should be completed soon.
Seemed like great value for $200, a great base for seeing the GC.

You can easily forget the room, its furnishings, and amenities, simply because barely 50m from your front door, whichever room you have, is the most impressive view! the room wasnt luxury, and we barely slept in it as we got up at four to see sunset...however for position alone this place is great.

there was a lot of work going on at the time, but only during daylight, we did have to lug our bags over the work area to get to our room, it just added humour to the stay and there was no disruption to sleep etc.

We stayed in the Powell Suite at the Bright Angel Lodge from May 1st -5th. It's actually a cabin and it's 6186. It has two queen beds and slept four of us. You could also put a 5th on the couch in the living room (it was totally comfy). Here is the scoop: You are in a cabin in the front by the parking lot. It's a matter of less than a minute to walk to the rim. They were doing construction so it was noisy during the day but who's in their room? The room is two cabins put together. The back room has two queen beds. The front room has two chairs, a couple tables and a couch. Plus a fridge and a nice flat screen TV. The there's a nice size bathroom with a shower. Very rustic cabin, but we really liked it as it has charm. We hiked, took the shuttle to Hermit's Rest (recommended) and saw and sunset. All fantastic! Grand Canyon is breaktakingly beautiful!

Room Tip: 6186 is the Powell Suite and it sleeps 4 or 5!

It was our second stay in a cabin at Bright Angel. It is amazing to step out of the room and into the Grand Canyon. The rooms are quite simple but just fine.

There is wifi in the lodge but not in the cabins.

The parking is really convenient - even though it was really busy during spring break.

The lodge staff were all very friendly but could have been more knowledgeable about the amenities in the area.
