“Canyon Dream Air and Land Tour of Grand Canyon with Maverick”

We were picked up right on time at our hotel. We made a few more pickups and then proceeded in the very comfortable motor coach to the airfield. There we were seated in a very nice loung area with a snack bar, gift shop, restrooms, etc. while everyone was processed for their tours. Once all the West Rim trips left, we boarded our Beech 1900 for the trip to the South Rim. The pilots were very personable, and we had a great flight, and waiting right outside the door to the aircraft was a very friendly coach driver who took us to the lounge area. There we had a few minutes to visit the restrooms, and then we were off on the helicopter. We didn't make the front seat when the load was properly balanced, but as promised one of our seats was a window seat, which I gave to my wife. That being said, my seat in the middle still had a great view throughout the trip. We flew along the South Rim of the canyon, then across to the North Rim and back again. These views are something you just can't get from the overlooks! After the helicopter flight, we went by the same coach with the personable driver over to the Bright Angel Lodge, where we spent about 1.5 hours, which was enough time to enjoy many of the great vistas, grab a snack, and do some hiking. Oh, BTW, Maverick provided us with a tasty box lunch which was very filling in and of itself. After the Bright Angel Lodge we headed back to the airstrip, boarded the BeechCraft back to Vegas, and were shuttled back to our hotel in time for a leisurely afternoon by the pool. Maverick's drivers even took into account Friday afternoon traffic into the city, and took us to the hotel over uncongested side roads. What a great trip! The only downside to our tour was that everything and everyone was so great that I spent a lot more on tips than I had planned!

“Papillon Helicopter Tours had terrible customer service and was extremely dissapointing.”

I would not recommend Papillon Helicopter tours to anyone. The north rim helicopter tour was supposed to be the highlight of our trip - we were soooo excited. We planned our trip to the Grand Canyon around our tour time which was the last of the day, and I called within 24 hrs of take off to confirm our flight. We arrived at the airport and checked in. The computers were running slow but the flights were leaving. Papillon said the computers had been like that all day. We sat through the safety video and then waited with much excitement. After the people in front of us left in the helicopter our trip was canceled due to computer reasons. I guess they could not safely communicate with the flight tower. We were extremely disappointed. I was very polite but still extremely disappointed when I went to speak with the person at the front desk.

They offered to reschedule our trip for the price we paid for it. Since we were staying over 85 miles away we felt it reasonable that we should receive either a discount on our original trip or an upgrade of some sort. Unfortunately both the regional and corporate office were completely unwillingly to accommodate us. Considering the inconvenience involved, cost of travel to and from the GC, and supreme disappointment how could you blame us for not recommending them. This was a company not mother nature issue - I would recommend some remedial customer service training throughout the organization.

“Great Way to see more of the Canyon when you only have a little time”

We were only at the Grand Canyon for a little more than a day. So we could only see so much. Taking the flight we got to see far more than we would have otherwise. We especially enjoyed getting to see the Colorado River from above, the Little Colorado’s aqua water, and the North Rim.

Our flight was not full so we were all able to sit by a window.

If you are at all susceptible to motion sickness, be forewarned it can be a bumpy flight.

“Breath Taking”

In April we visited the Park and it was snowing the first day but it was still so beautiful. We stayed at the Maswik Lodge in one of the little cabins that was built in the 1930's. It was so cold that we had to have the heater on all night. But the cabin was very nice and comfortable. The next day it wwas much warmer and we took pictures and had a great day.

“Bumpy ride, Small Windows, Small Plane!”

We booked our flight via the internet figuring that as this company was the original and first to ever fly trips into the canyon that they would really know there stuff! WRONG.
The plane had about 10 seats, the pilot did not fly trips into the canyon regularly and had a guest on board in the co-pilots seat and spent most of the 45 minutes cracking jokes with his guest instead of keeping the paying guests informed, we spent a large proportion of the time outside the rim and the view was poor. It was a bumpy ride but this was to be expected in a light aircraft given the thermals present around the canyon. My advice, FLY MAVERICK HELICOPTERS!
