“Dining worthy of the Canyon”
Reviewed January 31, 2014

We visited the North Rim in June 2013 and were pleased to find this dining room much improved. On our visit in 2012, we found the breakfast service abysmal. At one sitting, there wasn't even silverware on the tables and we had to ask before it was provided. The servers seemed to be lost in space and it was hard to get a cup of coffee, let alone a refill. This was a big disappointment, since breakfast is so important to starting a day at the Canyon. On this more recent visit, the level of professionalism was greatly improved and made for a dining experience appropriate to the spectacular setting. The breakfast buffet was very good. Perhaps a few simpler, lighter offerings on the dinner menu would be nice. We plan to visit every year, and now will be looking forward to our meals in the dining room.

“Only place to eat and they know it”
Reviewed December 29, 2013

Main restaurant is in lodge and looks like a great place, big, old, rustic, warm interior with large windows to view canyon. However, low wattage lighting makes it hard to read menus, food was so-so, one salmon was over cooked and the other undercooked. Food not sufficiently hot, seemed it must have sat waiting to be served, got cold once on the table. They are booked solid every evening, wait staff is hurried too much and pushed some bogus wine. If they are so busy why would they take time to push some worthless wine? They forgot our drinks. If it wasn’t the only restaurant in the place I would eat somewhere else. Next visit we will not eat here.

“Rustic Charm in Lodge Dining Room”
Reviewed December 7, 2013

We arrived in the late afternoon and aside from an early reservation we had to wait until 8.45pm (9.45pm in old time zone) to secure a booking in the dining room. The dining room had the rustic charm of a mountain lodge. The staff were pleasant. My Alaskan Salmon was beautifully cooked but only a small serve in comparison to other meals I have eaten. The meal for two cost around $80 which is a bit on the pricey side.

“Spectacular Setting - Excellent Breakfast Buffet”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

I like to have breakfast in the main dining room of the National Park lodges. This usually results in a reasonably priced meal in a spectacular setting. This one turned out to be one of the best.

I was seated promptly at a table with a spectacular view of the fog shrouded canyon. The waitress was busy, but got my juice quickly. I chose the buffet. This was the best I've seen lately. A chef cooked your eggs or omelet to order. The items on the buffet were fresh and refreshed frequently, and the choices of fruit, pastries, were quite good as well as the usual meats, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy. But the cooked to order omelets is what really set this buffet apart.

Summary an excellent buffet breakfast in a magnificent lodge with a spectacular view.

“Dinner at Sunset...”
Reviewed October 20, 2013

Dinner here at sunset is positively unforgettable. Two walls are completely windowed meaning that you can take it all in. It really doesn't matter where you sit. The food is also very good, and this is in spite of the fact that our visit was sandwiched between the government shut-down and the last day of the season. The salmon was artfully prepared, the elk chili was rich and sturdy and good. Good craft beer. Service was attentive and friendly.
