“Beautiful view and a little place to hike”
Review of Grandview Point

Reviewed June 14, 2014

We liked the easy access to a great view and that there was a place to do a little hike. Just make sure you keep your eyes open for the sign because we drove past it and ended up at Tusayan Ruins!

Grandview was developed as the first visitors site along the Grand Canyon. This was the site visitors journeyed to by stage coach, before the railroad came in. This popular early tourist introduced people to the canyon. The site provides visitors with a history of the early hotel, photos and spectacular views. Sadly the coming of the railroad to the South Rim drove the tourist business from Grandview and the hotel closed. This spot along Desert View Drive is worth visiting. Restrooms and a picnic area is available, as well as plenty of parking.

One of my favorite viewpoints on the South Rim! It has a nice trail which you can walk partway down if you want. Just below is a nice flat rock that you can scramble up on for amazing group pics!

The view is grand but I don't think this is the best viewpoint along Desert View Drive. I like Moran Point and Lipan Point. The parking lot here fills up more than others due to access to the Grandview Trail. We had to circle the parking lot several times until some folks pulled out. Going down the trail just a few minutes, however, does offer some additional view opportunities just be careful it is a steep unmaintained trail - as compared to Bright Angel Trail or South Kaibab.

This was my favorite vista and is aptly named! Don't miss this one. You can also get peeks of the Colorado River in two places. The depth and the colors are spectacular.
