The Abyss offers a different viewpoint than several of the other viewpoints along the Rim Trail. Instead of an expansive view, The Abyss is a 3000 foot straight drop into the canyon. I am rating it four stars instead of five because of relativity. While it is the Grand Canyon, and every single view along the Rim Trail is marvelous, out of all the observation points, I did not find this one the most spectacular. If you are pressed for time or exhausted, you can skip this one unless you want to marvel at just how deep the canyon is.
Additionally, please be extra mindful of the railing/fence here. It is called The Abyss for the reason. I always see people bypassing the fence for a photo, but it is very easy to misstep and be put in a very bad situation.
