“3000 Foot Drop”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2014

The Abyss offers a different viewpoint than several of the other viewpoints along the Rim Trail. Instead of an expansive view, The Abyss is a 3000 foot straight drop into the canyon. I am rating it four stars instead of five because of relativity. While it is the Grand Canyon, and every single view along the Rim Trail is marvelous, out of all the observation points, I did not find this one the most spectacular. If you are pressed for time or exhausted, you can skip this one unless you want to marvel at just how deep the canyon is.

Additionally, please be extra mindful of the railing/fence here. It is called The Abyss for the reason. I always see people bypassing the fence for a photo, but it is very easy to misstep and be put in a very bad situation.

“Words cannot express . . . . .”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 21, 2014

The Grand Canyon is - without doubt - the most spectacular thing I have ever seen; it leaves you breathless, open-mouthed, wide-eyed and very aware of your own insignificance . It's just there, and all the words that we use inappropriately everyday suddenly take on a new meaning. The colours, the sheer size, depth, wonderment of it all make it worthy of a visit from anyone. I stopped taking photos after a while because I realised no photo could convey the beauty and I was wasting precious canyon time taking them.
If you ever get the opportunity to go, please, please do so.

“Really enjoyed this one.”

Hoping of the Red Route Shuttle here I really did like the view. It's not called The Abyss for nothing and the view down the hillside is spectacular. Great photo opportunities here.

3000 foot straight down, what more can you say? You have to see it with your own eyes. What a sight.
