“Worth the walk (or shuttle bus ride)”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2013

Lots of history here and a neat trail that skirts the rim ... sometimes waaaaaay too close for me!
There's plenty of spots to look over the canyon, see the river and you can jump on or off the shuttle bus in the event the weather changes or you become tired.
Hermit's Rest has lots of history, and, probably one of the biggest fireplaces I have ever seen. Food, drinks, curio shop available.
Go!

“Tough, rocky, not scenic as many other GC trails”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2013 via mobile

We hiked HT down during our 2day 26mile loop via Hermit Trail, Tonto Trail and back to Bright Angel Trail. The first miles are steep, rocky, don't forget poles, they are helpful. Further down it continous over rocks. We did a couple of other trails at North Rim, South Rim, Havasu, and in comparison Hermit seems not to be really special actually. Wouldn't do it again.

“Good for sunset and sunrise”

It is an excellent vantage point for sunset and sunrise, and can be reached easily by walking or on the bus.

“Tough but gorgeous”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

An unmaintained trail with good bones, fabulous views. It was a hard slog up from Hermit Creek Campsite, especially taking some of those giant steps up and over rock falls. Cathedral Stairs were just so beautiful, despite being steep, and the middle section through the red rock was spectacular and not really too hard. It was the last bit up from Santa Maria Spring that seemed it would never end! But, yes, I'd do it again.

“Unmaintained”

My favorite trail. Quite a challenge to find the trail in some places but the work is worth it. Hermits creek at the bottom is a "Garden of Eden" for hardcore campers.
