Helpful rangers, magnificent film, interesting exhibits. Sure, you can see the Grand Canyon without stopping here, but this sparkling new visitor center provides an excellent orientation to the wonders you will see. Stop here first!

I went here the day after a a full day of hiking. Wish I would have journeyed into here first to get some information first as an introduction. They have a neat video to watch.

This is a great place to start your visit. Watch the movie and orient yourself. There is free transportation to the Grand Canyon village. Rim tours are purchased in the lodges.

My wife and I always come into the canyon's south rim from the east entrance, so this is one of our last stops on a visit to the canyon, but if you come in the main entrance then it will likely be your first. The visitor center is a good place to get oriented, and canyon views from here are (of course) incredible, but do make a special effort to remember where you parked in the lot, whose size is emblematic of the enormous dimensions of the canyon itself.

We used so many batteries for our camera! One problem though - there was an accident the day of our visit. We got stuck at Desert View Point for 6 hours. The handling of the flipped RV was... poor. There are no refunds... government-run public park... don't hold your breath. We also saw people throwing garbage into the canyon - shame on them. We also went during monsoon season - bring rain gear! Plan for time and don't waste your time at Williams. One of the reviews said to drive up to the South Rim from Williams. If you're from Canada and you've seen BC, AB, SK then don't bother - just get there with the shortest route. The drive from Williams resembles the prairies and it's a loooong drive. Plus there's really nothing at Williams other than a two/three block "historic" town and the train station. Gas up before you get to Williams. It's mighty expensive once you get near the GC - the same goes for the food.
