Wow...can't go wrong here! This was our first "point" on arriving in the park for a gorgeous sunset! The shuttle was so easy to take and there was quite a few momma elk with their babies milling about at the shuttle junction...we even caught a glimpse of the big daddy, the bull elk thru the trees. Shuttles do get a but crowded for the sunsets but they have plenty of buses and staff to accomodate. Yaki Point itself was awesome and inspiring... if you have young'ns you MUST be careful to keep them close to you.... there are no guard rails or fencing and it IS a long way down. Don't forget to bring your super-duper cameras... incredible.

We arrived at 5am and parked in the Visitor Center parking lot. The shuttles begin running at 4am every 30 minutes. The orange route East will take you to Yaki Point. We were advised to arrive about an hour before sunrise. The views of the sun coming up are amazing.

I was at Yaki Point at about 8:30 on a Saturday morning and there was almost no one else around. I could sit and absorb the grandeur of one of the best views in the park in pleasant solitude. As with many things about the Grand Canyon, get there early before the crowds overwhelm the place.

If you have the time, I highly recommend renting a bike and coming up here. It's a fairly easy ride (small hills) and very rewarding.

You must take a shuttle bus to get here, so it is not quite as busy as some of the other viewpoints. The precipice that this point sits on provides a unique view both east and west and you can see some formations not visible from other nearby points. Be sure to walk both left and right from the shuttle drop off, most people seem to go to the more clearly marked viewing area to the left but there is another viewing area separately back to the right with a different view.
