Brilliant, caught the red route shuttle bus to first stop, an the we walked the south rim trail to Hermit's Rest. Walk took 4 hours, but its one of the best ways to see the Canyon. Take lots of water as there is no undercover rest points till Hermit's Rest, but if you need to you can catch the shuttle bus a 8 stops on walk.

“Great views of the canyon, and you don't have to fight traffic on the road”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

(Continuing from the title's text) ... though you may have to fight other cars to find a spot to park to take this trail. In any case, this trail misses the great scenery to be seen on East Rim Road toward Desert View, but is a nice, more or less level path along the canyon's rim with some superb scenery. If you want to see a lot of the canyon but don't want to spend tons of time in the conga line that the park road can become on a busy day, this is a great choice for the centerpiece of your visit to the Grand Canyon

“A perfect way to spend a day at the Grand Canyon”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

We were given great advice by a staff member at El Tovar who recommended we pick up sandwiches at Maswik Lodge. We then hiked the trail from the hotels almost to the end, stopping along the way for a perfect picnic. What's brilliant is you can hike until you're exhausted, then catch the bus back. The last half of the trail is almost deserted, so it's just you and the wilderness. Spectacular!

“An excellent way to take in the different views of the Canyon.”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

PROS: an easy and relaxing way to photograph different views of the Canyon at our own pace; well paved and well-marked trail for everyone.

CONS: none.

“Excellent”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

Took the bus to the end and walked back - watching the light changing over the canyon. Make sure you take water and snacks. There is lots of bench to sit and take the view in. The whole experience was fantastic.
15 years ago we did the North Rim- both are worth seeing and our a different experience.
