“Great Bike Ride...but be aware”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

We booked the 3pm 3hr guided Bike ride from Hopi Point to Hermits Rest for Early July for our Family of 2 Adults & 2 Children 8 & 10yrs for approx. $176.

I must start with saying this is an awesome way to see the Canyon. The knowledge at the start of the trip from Paul & Tomas was fantastic & much better than sitting or standing in a shuttle bus on the route.

However July-Aug is monsoon season, & hence is the time of year they can experience a lot of afternoon storms. Unfortunately this happened on our trip, with quite bad lightening & due to safety reasons we only managed to get not quite half way, not even leaving the road to get onto the greenway track before the trip was terminated. The next day we were in another part of the Canyon & more dark clouds & lightening came through mid-late afternoon, so my advice would be if you can, do the 10am Bike Ride rather than the 3pm ride during this time of year.

I understand Bright Angel cannot be held accountable for the weather but paying $176 with no offer of part refund or offer to try the ride again on the 10am departure in the morning is an expensive ride for 1 1/2 hrs. Even before we departed the Base I said to my husband I wondered if the ride would go ahead as the wind was picking up, & the area we were heading towards had extremely stormy looking Clouds. This didn't worry us as we live in an area where Late Afternoon Summer Storms with thunder & lightening are a common occurance, & I thought thought Bright Angel would have been aware if the bad weather was in our path of travel which it turned out to be.

Where we live in Australia you can go onto the Bureau of Meteorology website for your area & the radar will show what sort of weather, the severity of the weather & the path it is taking over a period of time. Obviously Bright Angel doesn't have access to this information hence my recommendation for doing the morning departure before those Summer Storms start building in the afternoon.

“Best way to experience the Grand Canyon!”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

We booked our bike tour after reading some great reviews here on Tripadvisor and I must echo what everyone else said here. What an amazing way to experience the Grand Canyon.

I booked the tour on the same day and had such an easy time booking through their website with no issues. When we checked in everyone there was so friendly and energetic. We booked the sunset tour which started at 5pm and ended at 8pm. When we checked in, our bikes were all ready, just had to get our helmets and quickly get fitted on our bikes. We started the tour and our guide stopped at various points on the Grand Canyon to provide information, share some great Canyon stories/myths/legends, take some pictures and enjoy the views from all angles. We even stopped and hiked a bit down the canyon to safe landing where we could have an amazing view of the sunset. The best part of the tour was that we saw some amazing wildlife up close and personal. 3 deer and 2 massive elks were along the trail.

Our guide Jake was not only funny but he was super-energetic and fun as well as knowledgeable about the area and the canyon.

Overall my husband and I were very pleased that we booked this and will recommend it to anyone we know. We had limited time at the canyon and wanted to see everything it offered and really couldn't have been better. The tour is so worth the extra 10 bucks rather than just renting the bike on your own.

“The best way to see the Grand Canyon”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

We had just a few hours since we're not staying overnight and had made the trek from Vegas by rental car. We did their two hour ride that drops you off from Hopi point and you ride down to hermits and then get picked up to head back. The guys were great and you do not have to try to pack your self into those shuttle buses. This was definitely the way to see the canyon for our first time.

“Top activity of the Grand Canyon”
Reviewed June 19, 2013

This was the highlight of our trip to the Grand Canyon. We saw and learned more in this 3 hours than we did in the 3 days we were there. We met our family that had a 7 & 9 year old that don't ride bikes, but they were able to attach a bike to 2 adult bikes so they could ride along. The ride overall is really easy. We stopped at several points to learn history and hear native stories that really enhanced the excursion. You are on trails that the general public isn't on and the place where they bring the presidents to view the canyon.
It was SUPER!

“Bright Angel Bike Rentals and Tours”
Reviewed June 6, 2013

My son and I did the Bright Angel bike tour from the South Rim visitor center to Hermits Cove. Our tour guide (Paul Hourd) was very knowledgeable, and made our visit to the park very memorable. This bike tour is a really great way to visit the Grand Canyon in a single day because it allows you to see the entire west side of the park within 2 hours. This gave us time to visit the many overlooks on the east side of the park by car later in the day. Our tour guide also gave us some tips on where to go to see some really cool, but lesser known vistas. We booked our tour online a few weeks ahead of time, but our names weren't on the list when we arrived. The Bright Angel Bike Rental shop manager resolved the situation quickly, and to our surprise, he arranged a special tour for just my son and I. Under nomal circumstances, there is a 8 - 12 person minimum before a tour is given. This tour is well worth the money.
