This should be on everyone's bucket list. Better yet, check it off the list and go! It's hard to explain how beautiful this creation is. We started by entering on the east side through Cameron and enjoyed each stop along the way. Once we reached the center of the South Rim we checked into the Thunderbird and utilized the shuttle system for the rest of our visit. Shuttle is great to keep traffic down and is eco-friendly. The park is also full of water-fill stations since prebottled water is not sold anywhere in the park. Watch our for the elk though- they also frequent the waterfill stations:)

Want to find history, this is the place to get very excited, the only thing that I can say that when you go to all the stops, nothing changes its the same view but you have to wait till sunset that's the best thing to wait for.

North Rim is less touristy, than south. Greener and cooler. The lodge is nice. The dining area has beautiful views all around.

We stayed 2 nights in nearby Williams so that we would have a whole day to spend at the canyon. But we could easily have spent longer. We hiked the rim trail from the Village Route bus transfer point to Hermit’s Rest, about 12.5 km. It took us about 4 hours, allowing for photo-stops. A word of advice: there are no guard rails on most of the trail, and it really is right along the rim. I wouldn’t be taking young children on this. The middle section, from Powell Point to Monument Creek, is unpaved and uneven. The other sections are easier, and the last section, near Hermit’s Rest, would be the easiest and safest, as it is wider and further from the edge.
Second word of advice: the weather changes rapidly. At about 7,000 ft elevation, it was cool along the rim in the morning when we started, but by midday it was hot, and just before we reached Hermit’s Rest a sudden storm blew in over the canyon. Seeing it coming was amazing; being caught in a downpour was not. Be prepared: wear sturdy shoes and take a sunhat, water bottle, and rain poncho even if you are not a hiker. Also note there is no drinking water and only one portable toilet along the trail.
If you don’t want to walk the whole trail, a free bus stops at several places along it, but we thought it was worth it to do the walk. One day wasn’t enough to properly experience the rest of the park but we were glad that at least we had a whole day rather than doing a quickie bus tour.

The canyon was great, as on previous visits. It is more crowded than ever, and it is pretty good getting into the area, and parking. Was disappointed in the Visitor's Center....and the bathrooms were out of order. Understand things break....but at a park this crowded isn't a good thing.
