Owner description: Word of mouth has that the more remote, harder to get to and therefore less crowded North Rim offers a more authentic Canyon experience and better views. However, there is no bus service on this rim and it is closed during the winter.

I'm not going to compare the views. Both north and south rims a different enough and spectacular.
The main differences are the crowds and park accessibility. You choose how much you want to drive and how much you want to avoid the crowds.
The drive is well worth it if you combine the North Rim with stops at Zion and Bryce.

We enjoyed our day and a half adventure! We stayed outside of the park itself but it was a wonderful experience for our 11 year old son not to have cell or internet service. Our hike wasn't cluttered by too many tourist (I believe there were about 25 or so anywhere we went). The scene, as usual, is breath taking! We were greeted by bison as we entered the north gate and along our drive saw many deer and chipmunks. Beautiful family vacation, couldn't ask for a better adventure!

The North Rim is so different from the South Rim. South Rim is crowded with tourists, the North Rim is not. The temperature is much more pleasant and cool. You feel like you are in Colorado or someplace cool! The view is spectacular! The large pine trees and aspens are amazing. There are deer, buffalo, chipmunks, etc. We stayed in the DeMotte campground. Very clean and quiet. Very convenient to the park. Put this on your bucket list!

I have not been to the more popular, South Rim of the Grand Canyon. I am not in such a hurry to see it now that I have been to the North Rim. Go to South to say you've been there; go to North to be awed by nature.
I am not talking about checking out the vista from behind the giant panes of glass in the rustic restaurant. Make sure to step out on precipices named after angels and grip the railings because the winds roaring through the canyon are bracing. You will get vertigo gazing down. You will swear the rock formations are chapels made by ancient peoples. It is another one of our places in this country where you are abruptly, lovingly, taken off living by the clock.
Driving up the road to the more remote portions of the park feels like an adventure. It is steep. It works a path through miles and miles of charred tree trunks caused by wildfires. At the top is a windswept plateau to park your car and walk out onto some more breathtaking drops. The Colorado River is down there. When my wife and I hiked here we shared this fantastic place with only a dozen or so other travelers. It was mid-May and in the upper eighties.
Go. See vistas that make you feel like God was sharing with you a treat of his creation.
