10 miles round trip on a well trod trail. A good day hike in Glacier National Park. You will see wildlife...a spruce grouse or eagle, moose or maybe a bear...be alert and talkative to give the big animals plenty of time to clear out of your way.

“Gorgeous”

Well worth the 10 mi roundtrip hike. Lot of hikers along the way, wearing bells and shouting for bear safety.

Gorgeous view of the lake

“Worth the effort”

Nice gentle trail takes you into this lakes own little theater. Tall cliffs surround this lake, so you can hear avalanches from time to time. Crystal clear water...

“This is the most beautiful place I have ever seen”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2012

10 miles round trip after having hip surgery this February seemed like a lot to tackle. The book warned us of the first, very steep half mile. The trail goes past Ptarmigan falls which are cool in and of themselves, but the trek from there to Iceberg lake is manageable. Pack lots of water, and a snack, you're going to want to stay at the lake for a while. You can swim. The water is 43 degrees. The wildflowers were in bloom like it was April back home. Unbelievably beautiful.

“A beautiful hike with a rewarding destination!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2012

We did the hike on a warm day in early August. Almost the entire thing is a gradual climb along the side of the mountain, with no switchbacks. It's full of panoramic views, and mostly open to sunlight. The falls are a great halfway-there break, and they're beautiful. Unfortunately, you don't get much of a view of them from head on. It gets significantly colder when you enter the Iceberg lake area, so bring another layer of cloths just in case. Also, there are bathrooms located along the trail halfway right before the falls and before the lake.

As for the lake, you'll be stunned at just how beautiful and strange-looking it is when you first see it. It was an 85 degree day, and there were large blue chunks of ice/snow floating around all over the lake.
