Owner description: Large recreational lake in Glacier National Park.

My husband and I were here in September 2012. It's a must-stop haven to stretch your legs after exiting Logan Pass in Glacier Park. The water here is so pristine. The air is so fresh. It's a great place to explore if you have lots of time for it.

September is very cold for water-dipping though as evidenced by greenish-looking water and spots of snow in the mountains on your way down here. I would have loved to set up camp here if we had time.

I stayed two nights at Lake McDonald in late September. The boat ramp was closed so not many people crowding the area. I would walk in the early morning when the sun was just peaking over the mountains and at sunset. These times are optimal for pictures and serenity. There is a path starting right out back of the Lake McDonald lodge.

Of all the lakes here, this was my least favorite but I am sure some would disagree with me as beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

This lake allows for a perfect view of the mountains of Glacier National Park. The scene is incredible and definitely worth a visit. We didn't have any time to take part in the lake related activities, but taking a few minutes to soak in the view was well worth it!

What a beautiful lake. There aren't enough adjectives to describe Glacier National Park. The waters are calm and cool (or straight up cold) and the multicolored rocks under the surface are alluring in the afternoon sunlight. You can easily wile away an entire day just sitting near the shore, reading a books, listening to the gentle lap of the waves.

As an aside, Brooke's pants were still doing well at this point, even though we had run out of duct tape to keep them held together, but it was the skipping that truly started their death. As she got out of the car, one pocket gave a loud rrrrrrrrrip sound and she stood there with part of her bare leg out int he warm sun of the Montana afternoon. While we were skipping stones at the shore, she reared back for a big throw and blew the crotch of her pants out like a champ. It turns out that wearing thin, women's 15 year old cargo pants on a long outdoor adventure does not go well.

This lake is very pretty. The Apgar resort is really nice looking although I didn't get to go inside because it's closed in October.
