The lake was beautiful. Getting there was a little on the scary side because of the, pretty much, one way road, where someone had to give in so the other could pass. Glad we did it.

I wish we had stayed here longer. It is a long gravel road that connects Bowman Lake to the distant paved roads, but the bumpy ride was worth the solitude. We arrived to a near empty campground and let the deer pick our campsite. We had a small rain shower pass through and we went down and saw a double rainbow over the lake. That evening we saw maybe 10 other people. The next morning we decided to hike along the lake in hopes of some differing views from the lakeside. Unfortunately, the trail stays more in the woods than out of it, but there were a few openings along the way until we hit a long batch of mud and decided it was time to head back.

Once you get to the bridge to drive to the bridge it will take 30 minutes to drive the NARROW dirt road the six miles to the lake.

All you need is a spirit of adventure, great shock absorbers, 4 wheel drive recommended but not necessary, a day pack, fishing pole, canoe, lunch, hat and some kids and you'll have a great time. It doesn't get more primitive than this although the grounds are kept up very well if you are camping. Great beach for just hanging out and letting mother nature teach you about relaxation. Trails on each side of the lake and as always... be safe and carry bear spray and / or a .44 or bigger... be bear aware and have fun.

While staying in West Glacier my husband and I took a drive up to Polebridge and then onto Bowman Lake. What an awesome, beautiful lake. Those who camp here must really enjoy it. We drove up in the late afternoon so we didn't have to pass too many cars on the road to the lake (coming from the opposite direction). Right after Polebridge, on the road to Bowman Lake, there is a Ranger station with a very clean restroom. We also stopped at the Polebridge Mercantile store to buy some of their famous pastries. We had a berry bearclaw, snickerdoodle cookie and a large turnover. The bearclaw and cookie were only average but the large apple/chocolate turnover was an A+. Yum!!!!! We had a very THICK coat of dust all over the car after we got back to Kalispell. No problem though. My husband just ran the car through the car wash the next day. Some parts of the road are narrow and one time when we pulled over to let another vehicle pass some sharp braches scratched the side of our car quite badly. My husband was able to buff most of the scratches out so they are not real noticeable. But, having said all of that, it definitely was worth the drive and quite a fun adventure for us. Our whole trip to Glacier was so much fun we can't wait until next year to return. If we ever go to Bowman Lake again I would want to get out and do some walking around the lake. Yes, I would definitely carry my bear spray LOL!!!!!
