“One of the best things to do in the Everglades”
Reviewed April 27, 2014

We walked the Anhinga Trail and got to experience true wildlife. We saw birds, turtles, fish, and many alligators - all in their true, wild, habitat. There is a really nice boardwalk "trail" over the swampy water where if you look closely will see many alligators in the water and hiding in the brush. The trail isn't too long, but a nice walk. It's a must do if you come to the Everglades. It was the best thing we did in that area of the park!

“FABULOUS! Best Everglades Trail”
Reviewed April 27, 2014

Definitely worth a stop!! I think this was THE best trail in the park. Easy access & parking to a looped boardwalk trail which is about 1.2 miles, flat. Lots of birds, anhingas, great blue herons, striped herons, egrets, ibis, and more. Super cool, we saw anhinga babies being fed in the nest. Turtles, and alligators. At about the halfway point of the loop is an overlook where we counted 25 large gators. We didn't see gators on the boardwalk (no, I didn't miss that, they have lots of teeth), and the Rangers had warned we might, but that they don't view people as food and don't attack like on tv! Lush Florida trees and vegetation, swampy.
There are nice bathrooms in the parking area when you come in, as well as the free tarps people mention for the vultures. We didn't see any, so didn't use them.
This trail is just past the Park entrance which is located 11 miles from Florida City which was the nearest convenient place to stay in a motel (plenty to choose from too).
Part of the National Park system: bring your Golden Age Pass if you are seniors...

“The crown jewel trail of the southern Everglades road”
Reviewed April 24, 2014

Did not know what Anhinga was until I strarted in on this trail. I now know that it is a wonderful aquatic bird of medium stature that seems to prefer this stretch of the glades. This trail has it all. Turtles, multiple fish varieties, Osprey, Anhinga but most of all Alligators. We saw over a dozen alligators on the trail including two large males engaged in a rolling hissing fight for territory. This all happened about ten feet from the trail and got our attention. While these gators were in this fight the grass around them exploded with small (two foot +/-) alligators running in all directions including around may wife and I. Great nature experience.

“Perfect with kids”

Nice walk, lots of animals, not too long so kids are also enjoying it. And not too far from the highway if you are running out of time.

“Best part of southern park”
Reviewed April 23, 2014

We visited in march 2014. Drove from homestead all the way through the park. Anhinga Trail was by far the most impressive. In fact, we stopped there first, drove through the rest of the park, and were disappointing with everything else because this trail was so impressive.

This is the must stop attraction if you visit Everglades National Park.
