Description: The Black Bear is the place to go for hand crafted, delicious food. Voted BEST CAFE IN ALASKA by Food Network, we proudly stand behind all that we do. Black Bear serves brunch every day until 3pm with delicious offerings such as biscuits & gravy, benedicts and classic egg breakfasts, BBQ pulled pork sandwiches on house brioche, burgers (both beefy and vegan) and our famous smoked gouda mac & cheese. Dinner offers something for everyone, from our vegan gluten-free coconut curry to wild Copper River coho salmon, braised short ribs and fresh handmade pasta with locally foraged morels. We love to find the best local and seasonal Alaskan products and bring them to the people. We offer a full espresso bar, crafting locally roasted SteamDot coffee, as well as shakes and fresh fruit smoothies. You can expect fresh pastries coming out of our in-house bakery throughout the day (some vegan, gluten-free too). And our deli case is always full of quick grab and go items to take on your adventures. If you're coming off a busy day, just grab a local beer or glass of wine to enjoy while you linger on our deck, breathe deep and take in the mountains. Black Bear offers something for everyone, whether you are on an indulgent dream vacation, or keeping on the healthy side. Locals love us, and you will too.

We loved the feel of this local place! We came here after a freezing white water rafting trip. The coffee warmed us right up!

Went here for breakfast one morning as we refused to pay the high prices over at McKinley Chalet Resort. Found this little shop and decided to give it a try. We loved the breakfast sandwiches and the service was very good. We would definitely go back!

Great ambiance and service and pretty reasonable prices for a tourist trap Alaska village. Good many local offerings. Elk sliders from the apoetizer menu were wonderful and plenty for a meal. Husband loved the McKinkey marguerita.

As a seasonal employee and 8-year patron of BBCH, I can honestly say this is one of my favorite coffee shops in the world.

The food is excellent, the prices are reasonable (considering we're 2 hours from the nearest grocery store and everything has to be shipped in), and the staff are awesome. I get a double nonfat latte about 5 times a week, and they are always incredible. I got to witness a little bit of the barista training at the beginning of the summer and the owner really knows coffee.

This year's renovations have greatly improved the flow and ambience of the place. The new sandwich case has done a great job at reducing wait-time for food orders and the new pastry display case makes selecting a snack easier than ever.

I can't recommend this place enough.

Great coffee and breakfast sweets (especially the pecan coffeecake), but the egg-cheese-ham breakfast sandwich was nearly inedible: weird rectangular egg slurry, tasteless cheese, bearly toasted English muffin.
