This is the place to stop and pick up maps and check out the various things you can see and do at Denali. They have a couple of movies and some exhibits that you can check out.

There are a couple of shorter trails that start in the various areas around the visitors center. You also catch the shuttle buses here.

In another building they have several gift shops and a café, the Alaska Geographic store has tons of Denali and Alaskan merchandise.

Denali Visitor Center is your typical national park center where you can see a few exhibits, speak with the park rangers regarding programs, bear sightings, camping, hiking trails, etc. The center is actually a bit on the small side. After an all day Tundra Wilderness Tour that had us getting up at 5am our late afternoon visit was tiring. However, we did enjoy the beautiful film documentary called Heartbeats of Denali. If that is still showing I suggest you watch the documentary.

The 2-level center includes interesting exhibits on the lower level, presented in such a way that visitors of all ages can learn something about the creatures who inhabit this beautiful wild country.

DH and I enjoyed visiting here and we actually came two different days. Not as large as I would have expected considering how large and varied Denali is ... but it is nice. We mostly enjoyed wandering the trails around the visitor center ... probably spent 7 hours between the two days doing that.

Even though it was close to the end of the season, they should have had adequate stock. The ranger was knowlegeable and helpful.

The visitors center is a must when you go to Denili National Park. We really enjoyed the video's and history of the park. There are park rangers to answer all your questions and help you plan your visit. We also enjoyed the lifelike animal sculptures.

One of the best visitor centers we have visited, and we've been in most all the western parks' visitor centers! Be sure to allow enough time to see it all. There are trails leading from the center, but we didn't take them.

The Denali Visitor Center was a nice surprise. Be sure to visit the exhibits in the lower level. It's full of informative displays about the animals and other aspects of the park. It's great for kids, too! We ate our lunch on the Visitor Center grounds while we watched a moose walk through the woods. We had a wonderful conversation with an enthusiastic Park Ranger named Jason Gablinski. He is a wonderful park ambassador who made our day perfect!
