Description: The Perch offers you cozy, private cabins, hotel rooms and lodging near Denali National Park. Tucked into the woods and bordered by pristine Carlo Creek, our cabins offer you an Alaskan experience that is truly unique.Tree-top dining at the Perch Restaurant is a wonderful way to begin and end your day. The restaurant is “perched” atop a gravel moraine left by a glacier. Each of our 13 bay windows has a spectacular view of the Alaska range and it's many glaciers. Weather permitting, you can dine on our large deck, or just sit out in the sun and enjoy a cocktail while you wait for dinner.

With 270 degree views from an elevated "perch", reasonably priced Alaskan fare prepared by customer friendly chef (Luke) right off the skillet (no "warming" lamps used). For $22, all you chow salmon is a must have, not so much for the quantity but for the quality (seasoned with a garlic-cayenne pepper rub). Affordable local draft beer and $15 bottles of wine. The right-out-of-the-over wheat (loaf of) bread alone is worth the 20 minute drive from Denali town center.

“Great food!”
Reviewed July 4, 2009

Ate dinner here one night and breakfast two mornings. The food was tasty, fresh and reasonably priced. They made sandwiches for us to take on a bus tour in the park. Very friendly and will provide good info on the area.

“Thanks, TripAdvisors, for advising us to go here!”
Reviewed June 28, 2009

We stayed here two nights and ate breakfast and dinner each night. The rooms were not plush, but clean and comfy. The food was awesome. One night, after enjoying some halibut and summer ale, the waiter checked to see if we were interested in dessert. He said it was a real shame when we claimed to be too full, because "fresh blueberry pie was just coming out of the oven." Funny how quickly we got over the too full thing.

“Awesome find!”
Reviewed June 26, 2009

A little drive away from where most people stay near Denali, and actually hidden up a dirt road but well worth finding (about 15 minutes south of the Denali park entrance). Food was very, very good; second best we had in the area. I had caribou and it was very good. There bread was excellent - and we know since we make our own! It has outdoor seating and a nice view.

“Perfection at the Perch for people who love great local food”
Reviewed March 5, 2009

We ate here on a rainy night in August and couldn't have been more delighted.

There is something about eating in a restaurant where the front door nearly deposits you in the kitchen and where the chef – a chunk of raw caribou in one hand and a slice of bacon in the other – directs you toward a table for two near the back window.

Dinner was absolutely lovely. (Although I do wonder why chefs always think they have to mess with the Caesar salad. A perfectly made Caesar IS perfection. Don’t mess with it.) At any rate, the caribou medallions were delicious, as were the garlic mashed potatoes and the anything-but-boring vegetable medley. The pasta carbonara with scallops was fabulous.

With only a couple of people in the kitchen, each dish is literally prepared specially for you, but this means the meal proceeds at a more European pace. The wines were nice and we got a lovely loaf of bread (that would have been beyond lovely had it been warm) and the views (even through pouring rain) were splendid, so it didn’t seem like that long of a wait. Certainly not long enough to break out the cards as one of the families near us had done, but then, we did have our guidebook with, so spent some time plotting out the next couple of days. (But be forewarned if you are impatient.)

The turn for Perch is well-marked from the road, but you have to follow a rather rough gravel road up the hill to get there. It’s worth the effort for folks who really appreciate wonderful food.
