We stayed in the lodge, not the river cabins. The room was large and clean. We requested a ground floor room and that is what we received. The staff were very helpful with information and when we needed to contact a tour operator in Denali. Not a perfect rating because the beds were not as comfortable as they could have been and the carpet is a bit worn. Also it's a bit of a walk to the shuttle bus that leaves from McKinley Village.

Recently stayed here for a weekend away with my boyfriend and we had a great time! We were greeted by a very helpful staff who gave us the lowdown on the shuttle and all that. We stayed in a basic room (two double beds) but the beds were really comfortable and the sheets were so soft and the river view was wonderful. On top of that there was a decent sized flat screen TV and a really big shower (no bathtub though). Definitely a wonderful place to come back to after a day of adventuring.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I am glad that you were able to enjoy your getaway to the lodge. September is a great time to visit after the summer crowds have left and the fall colors are in full bloom.

Thanks again for the review and we hope to see you again next year.

We are a family of 4 that stayed here for tour nights as part of a post cruise tour. My expectations were fairly low for hotels in Alaska and I was pleasantly surprised. We were in the 700 building which seemed new and clean. It also contained a complimentary laundry room which came in handy for us after almost two weeks of travel. Accommodations were basic but comfortable. Nicer bedding than outdated bedspreads would have been welcome. The rooms with a view of the water were lovely. We were disappointed our request for connecting rooms was not met. The gift shop had excellent souvenirs. The restaurant was mediocre and pricey. They had a nice outdoor fire pit and sold s'mores kits at the coffee ship which my son enjoyed. There are walking trails nearby. The hotel offers free shuttles to town. This is a good choice for a Denali stay.

It is good to hear that your family had good experience in Alaska and the McKinley Village Lodge. I am glad the complimentary laundry and smores kits came in handy for you. Thank you for your feedback and for taking the time to write a review.

We stayed here two nights with our pkg land tour, they offer hourly bus service to different dropoffs BUT to only ONE at town of Denali..we got dropped off at one end and had to walk entire distance to other end to Salmon Bake Restaurant.....now, back to rooms, they were clean, windows opened to get air, since no AC, this could be a safety issue on bottom floor. The beds were very clean and comfortable. The bathrooms had large showers and plenty of fluffy absorbent towels. What lacks is the dining room menu choices...we long accepted the fact it costs a lot more in Alaska but the quality and selection of food could have been a lot better. What really upset me was you had two choices for breakfast in the dining room....hot/cold buffet or cold buffet......I really don't like buffets and wish you could order from a menu. We came here for two nights after having stayed one night at Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge, I wished we could have stayed there two nights and only one here. (Sorry I didn't mean to rate swimming pool-I don't think there was one, but I couldn't delete it)

Room Tip: If you choose this, insist on 2nd story RIVER facing room.....stay in small town of Denali where restaurants/shops are.

Thank you for writing a review. You offer some good advice and insights. It is possible to pay for a river view upgrade when booking and many travelers have noted this in the tips section. About 50% of our rooms have river views, far more than any other lodge in the area, and this can enhance your experience. However, there are decks and trails all along the river to enjoy if you choose not to get the view room.

Thanks for your insights. We will keep your suggestions in mind as we plan the menus for next season.

Our visit to McKinley Village Lodge was wonderful. The grounds are beautiful. Our room was comfortable. We were located very close to the river and the scenery was beautiful. The staff was very helpful. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I am glad that you found the staff to be "wonderful and friendly." We have a great group of employees here who truly care about the guests and Alaska.

I'm also happy that you thought the grounds looked good. I mowed the grass myself the other day - it was fun to get out and enjoy the sunshine!

Again, thanks for writing a review and we are very happy that you enjoyed your stay.
