Stayed one night as part of a pre-cruise land tour
Nice position by the river but rooms very basic and in need of updating, No air con, just a fan with a broken neck that worked when it felt like it!
Food very expensive and ok quality but far from everywhere so not ideal if you want to visit the area and don't have transport. There is a free shuttle bus to the local town but it was rather erratic on times
Left some clothes there (early morning etc etc !!!) and despite their assurances they had them, and they were all listed on the manifest, 3 of the 7 items were not returned.
Starbucks in the hotel foyer which is great - a pity they made my cappuccino with off milk!

We stayed there for two nights, as part of a pre-cruise land tour. Our room was in the 500 building, riverside. It is nice to open the window and listen to the river rushing by. The room was quite basic, but we had enough space and there was no noise. Both room and bathroom could do with a make over. The food (we had breakfast and dinner there) is not worth mentioning; the only thing to be said is that it is very pricy. Serving staff in the restaurant seemed to be inexperienced college kids. If I came back to Denali, I would look for an other place to stay.

Our room was adequate and clean, with a view of the parking lot, although I must admit that some rooms had a view of the river. Mosquitoes come in large sizes in these Denali woods, so we did not complain about the view and accepted the mosquito-less side with good grace.

The exterior looks rustic and seems acceptable if you are ready for a log cabin experience in the northern woods. However, underneath it all the fact remains that this is simply another two star motel. Youthful painters of the log cabin exterior noisily practiced their craft until well past 10 pm during these long daylight hours. It was not a welcome feature for weary tourists in non air-conditioned rooms. Open the windows and the paint fumes will get you. Close the window and swelter. What’s a fellow to do? I realize that winter arrives quickly and that routine maintenance must be conducted, but this was ridiculous.

A restaurant was available with rather pedestrian fare at outrageous prices.

A unique factor is that the waiters are all young people from different countries and the restaurant looks rustic and acceptable. The cruise lines have some work to do in order to upgrade these rustic facilities, before blithely advertising them as an add-on to your cruise.

Overall, a pleasant stay in Denali, but in rather primitive conditions. I suppose that those in quest of moose-viewing must not complain about primitive states of existence.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are making many improvements to the property and I apologize that the painting of the buildings disturbed your stay. We've experienced the hottest summer on record and normally A/C is not needed at all. I"m happy to hear that overall you had a pleasant stay and we hope to see you again sometime.

Just got back from our Alaskan Vacation. Stayed at McKinley Village Lodge for a couple of nights. Check in had a slight glitch, but desk staff handled it very well. Restaurant is pricey (but everything in Alaska is pricey). Lodge grounds were beautiful. Room was serviceable. It was warm, which required us to get out the "portable AC unit" (in other words, the oscillating fan that was in the room :) I won't complain, I was grateful for the fan. Room was small, but it was clean. One thing I noticed....the shower had one of those bowed shower rods over a shower pan (not a tub) with a lip of only a couple of inches on the pan. The shower curtain didn't extend to the shower pan, and with the bowed rod a lot of water dripped on to the floor. Not sure why someone didn't figure that out when it was designed but we had to mop up quite a bit of water after 4 people had their showers in the AM. Location was close enough to the action, but still secluded.

We are glad that you enjoyed your stay at the McKinley Village Lodge. I'm glad that you could put the "portable AC unit" to use. We've had unprecedented, record heat this year which has been great for hiking and other activities, but the rooms have been warm in the evenings.

We will see what we can do about the shower curtains. We are in the process of some major remodels at the hotel that will be complete when we re-open in May. Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for your insight.

This place is located few miles before entrance of the park next to the river. Location and construction is gorgeous but yes there are no amenities in lodges. No AC it was freaking hot out there last week. Best thing about this place in reasonably priced Breakfast Buffet with great serving staff. We look at other places in the town but this place is the best in Denali.

We just stayed as part of our Denali stay with our land cruise with Royal Carribean. Our tour guide told us we were in the resorts newest building, (700s). We found the place to be great! Clean, spacious, great water pressure, etc.

Food at the lobby restaurant was very good as well.

Our suggestion is when booking, insist on the 700 building or you might be "rolling the dice" with your experiences. Based on some of the other reviews. Something doesn't make sense...

The “village,” just south of the Denali visitor center, is the sister lodge to the McKinley Chalet, which is north, in the “glitter gulch” area near Healy. Unlike the Chalet, which is a flurry of activity, the Village is relatively quiet. A very modern, super-clean hotel with friendly, helpful employees. We enjoyed drinks and appetizers on the deck around the fire pit, which was a great way to meet people. Be aware that everything in this region of Alaska is pretty pricey; and this hotel and it’s restaurant are not an exception. The food is excellent, however, and you’re on vacation, right? We did not need a car here, either. The hotel has a bus shuttle between here, the train depot, Denali visitor center, and the Chalet (glitter gulch area). All our tour activities picked us up at the front desk, too.

We are glad that you enjoyed your stay at the McKinley Village Lodge! We agree that location is one of the best aspects of the lodge. The peaceful setting on the Nenana River with the firepit on the deck is unbeatable. Thank you for taking the time to write a review.
