Very informative and interesting. They talked about how they trained the dogs to race during the summertime with 4-wheelers.

“Great tour to see real working sled dogs.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2013

Would definitely recommend this tour. You take a free shuttle bus from the visitor center to the dog area. There you can walk around for about 20 minutes and view and pet the dogs. Then a talk is given about how the dogs are used in Denali Park and then a demonstration of the dog sled run is done. Cute and powerful dogs. Great fun.

“They are ready to go!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2013

Wow, once those dogs know they are going to big harnessed to a sled they are excited! The barking and jumping is beyond belief. Some of the dogs are not any bigger than a small shepherd and others are huge huskies, but they all know their position and job. When given the command they go, approximately 20 mph. You can pet the dogs also. Very informative by a park ranger and winter musher.

“A must do at Denali!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2013

We were traveling with young kids... so off course, we had to go and see the dogs! We took the bus from the Visitor Center. There were quite a few people already waiting in line and we were wondering if we were going to all fit in the bus. It was actually not a problem. They bring more buses! It is a short 5 minutes drive. Once there, you are free to room around for 15-20 minutes before the presentation starts. Don't miss the puppies, they are fun to watch! The Ranger talks about the history of dog sledding in Denali National Park, and how the dogs love to run. Then it's show time! The dogs know it and all start barking. The Rangers attach the dogs to the sled. And all are eager to go. When the Ranger gives the signal, just like that, in a flash, all are off the road in supersonic speed. They go around the kennel and stop just in front of you. You can then go and pet them, take pictures and talk to the Rangers. Afterwards, you can spend a little more time around the kennel before it is time to take the bus back to the Visitor Center. There is also a trail that goes back to the visitor center if you want. And if you miss watching the puppies when you go back home, just watch them on the National Park webcam (http://www.nps.gov/dena/photosmultimedia/webcams-pups.htm)! They also have a link where you can see Denali live from Wonder Lake. So don't miss the kennel tour. It is free, interesting and a lot of fun for all ages! If you want to see what it is like for the Rangers to go dog sledding in the winter, the short movie in the Visitor Center is quite interesting as well.

“Very interesting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2013

I'm not a dog person but loved this experience. The bus shuttle works well and if there are lots of people they put on more buses. The rangers obviously love their work and this comes through in the very interesting talk. The dogs are great! Puppies very cute and dogs love their work. It's not vey long, but it costs nothing and adds to the whole park experience. Well worth a visit.
