I visited the kennels with my out of state friend and two year old. We parked at the Visitor's Center expecting to take the shuttle to the kennels. The driver said we needed a car seat to get on the bus. He directed us to the baggage claim, which was fresh out of car seats. Luckily, I had my own car so we rushed back to the car and drove to the kennel area ourselves. The kennels are a short walk from the parking area. (Had moose tracks and fresh moose poop on the trail so use caution!)
The dogs were so friendly and fun to visit with. There was a ranger brushing one of the dogs that my daughter approached. The ranger stayed right by the dog to make sure he stayed calm while my daughter petted the dog to her heart's content.
The demo and talk about the sled dogs is very good, but hard for a two year old to sit through. Humans have to stay in the stands for safety sakes, so if you have little kids, bring them something to play with.
Use caution if you bring a stroller to the kennels. I think it sounded similair to a sled and it made the dogs excitable. (Whoops!)
This really is a must if you visit Denali Park. Its amazing to do such a fun activity for FREE!
Biggest plus: The puppies from this season are so adorable!
