“Great View”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

This hike starts fairly moderate in forest and slowly gets steeper, but if you are in fairly good shape it is not that difficult. Took us about 1 hr 15 min. Great views and it looked like you could hike further if you wanted. There were a fair number of people so I quit worrying about bears after a while!

“they mean it when they rate it strenuous”
Reviewed June 29, 2013

The view from on top was amazing BUT it was a totally tough trail. The conditions are difficult--- gravel and loose rock with many huge rock scrambles. Definitely take trekking poles for the very steep downgrade in some areas. The other trail at Savage River-- Savage Alpine trail is about the same distance and elevation but so much better engineered with rock steps and was much less likely to have an injury..

“Cardio Workout”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

Great views of the valley, good workout, well marked trail . Once we reached the top, it was well worth the trip up. It was hot the day we hiked , but the cool breeze at the top helped cure that. Over all, a great hike in the Denali National Park. I saw a Pika, as our only wildlife viewing.

“Great hike!”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

We took this hike just after finishing the 8 hour bus ride to Eielson. The hike was streneous, but doable. It was well marked. There were rest benches and rest rocks, and in the end we were rewarded with great views. It was super windy at the top, so some kind of a jacket is a must. We saw hikers in their early 60's as well as young couple with a young child in their backpack. Bring water and have good hiking shoes. It took us 90 min. to the top and 70 min. to get back.

“Early morning challenge to wake you up”
Reviewed June 13, 2013

This is a relatively steady uphill hike that can be done in less than a couple of hours one way. The view at the top was great. We did the hike in the early morning when some of the clouds were just clearing. Beautiful.
