Owner description: *CLOSED FOR 2016* Alaska Travel Adventures:You and your fellow adventurers will take the wheel of 4-WD Jeep Wranglers® and follow your guide on a spectacular off-road journey into Denali’s backcountry. Your adventure begins near the entrance to Denali National Park where you meet your guide, receive your orientation and Jeep® assignment.Your destination is the Stampede Road. Once called the Stampede Trail, and not shown on most Alaska maps, this road was carved out of the wilderness by early miners working the area’s Kantishna gold fields and antimony mine. The Stampede Road gained notoriety recently in the motion picture, Into The Wild, directed by Sean Penn. This is the very same road that young Christopher McCandless, subject of the book, took to enter the wild. The first few miles of the Stampede Road are paved, but beyond this point your guide will lead you along some very primitive roadway providing you with plenty of bumps and dips and sways. Your Jeep Wrangler® carries four guests, and there will be ample opportunity to switch drivers so everyone can enjoy the thrill of maneuvering along this wilderness road.Interactive two-way radios allow your guide to explain the area’s rich history, point out interesting sights along the way, plus provide tips on the condition of the road ahead! Throughout the trip, you’ll be able to ask the guide questions and share the experience with your fellow drivers.Don’t forget your camera! On a clear day you may have the opportunity to see Mt. McKinley. Also, keep your eyes peeled for wildlife sightings…this is habitat for moose, foxes, caribou and bears. You’ll enjoy a hearty Alaskan snack before wending your way back to civilization with lots of stories to share with friends and hopefully some great pictures as well.

We enjoyed this but mainly because we hadn't gone off-roading in a Jeep before. So that part of the experience was fun, but if you are looking for wildlife or amazing scenery, this will not fulfill your expectations.

We were able to see Denali (one of the rare few), and had some good laughs at the ladies in the back of our Jeep who would scream on some of the crazier dips and bumps. The fact that we are married to them made it even more amusing and might have spurred us to take the bumpier route.

The guide talks to you on the CBs and he did a great job of explaining the permafrost and other things, so the trip was informative.

The meal at the return point was very good. The Beef Stew was hot and tasty and the bread was good also.

We took this excursion at 10am.
There is a short drive to jeep meeting area.
Then, there is a short drive (in your jeep) to Stampede Trail.
So, this excursion does last the time as advertised.
The jeeps were in good condition.
Our guide, Tom, was nice and informative.
When on the tour, you have to stay in line.
There is no free offroading or exploring (I was a little disappointed).
But after seeing the trail and terrain, I understood why.
We stopped half way and ate beef stew at Jim's campsite.
He works for the excursion tour.
Overall, this jeep trip was fun and informative.

What a waste of money and time at Denali. Firstly the scenery wasn't anything we had not seen on the train on the way here. Actually the scenery on the train was infinitely better. We were extremely hot inside the jeep and couldn't put down the windows due to the mosquitos swarms surrounding the jeeps. (I've been at lakes from Minnesaota to Florida and they don't compare in numbers with these) Tried switching on the A/C, I wouldn't have minded the duststorm that created if there was A/C. I was then told by our guide that only some of the jeeps have A/C. The only redeeming aspect of this ride was Jim and his stew. He was very congenial and his stew was quite good. We had to go back to the jeep to eat it as we needed both hands to chase mosquitos away.

Spent the morning in a jeep traveling the back country. Our guide was very informative and friendly. As we reached the end of the trail, we were greeted by Jim and his Back Country stew. He stays out in the wilderness 6 days a week to provide a hearty snack and some great company. Only disappointment was no wildlife to view. That is really not the purpose of this outing. You are able to drive the jeep and "play" as you wish. Fun morning!

This was not a tour we probably would have taken if we hadn't misread the to tour description. Primarily this tour allows you to drive a jeep through rough road conditions. You will most likely not see wildlife. This is all in the description but (our mistake) we didn't read closely enough. There is another jeep tour offered that does promote seeing wildlife.

That being said, the company was first rate. Our tour guide (who occupies the first jeep in the tour) did a great job of explaining to everyone how to navigate through the rough conditions and provided lots of good information on the area. This is all done over the CB radios in the Jeeps. The Jeeps are well maintained, although very dusty inside and out because of the road conditions. It would be nice if they had air conditioning (some do, some don't - ours didn't) because the mosquitos were awful and we had to keep the windows up. Turning on the vent blower just created a dust storm inside the Jeep.

The stew and pan bread waiting mid-point in the tour was delicious.

Overall the company and staff were great and if you're looking for a 4x4 tour I'd highly recommend them. If, like us, you'd rather see wildlife then you probably don't want to spend your time on this tour.
