“Relaxing at Wonder Lake”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2013

It is a long bus ride (5.5 hr) but it is a great place to see Denali from. My wife & I stayed at the campground for 2 nights and it was great especially to wake up one morning and get a partial view of Denali 26 miles away. It was a little chilly and rainy in late August but most of the bug were gone and the fall color had started to show. Wonder is a short walk for the campground. The walk to reflection pond is about 2.5 miles. I don't think I could handle the 11 hour round trip school bus ride in one day, staying over night helped breaking the trip up. The nightly ranger programs were also excellent

“Nice, but too far into park”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 30, 2013

Lake was nice, view of the mountain good, but not superior to view at Eielson. shuttle doesn't stop for long, only about 20-30 minutes before heading back. got a chance to pick blueberries! be prepared for long ride, especially if you have weak bladder, but there are ample restroom stops.

“Understand what you are going there for”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

Do a little research. It's not just the lake--its the unbelievable view and reflection of Denali from the lake.
I get a kick out of reading some of the reviews. Some folks would be best to just stay home and watch a movie of the park, I guess.
But, if you want to hike on tundra (a foot-thick sponge made of tiny plants, roots and lichen, or if you want to camp out for a couple of days, hiking the hills, waiting for Denali to show, or if you want to hike along the lake at midnight, hoping to catch the last rays of the sunset on the mountains, then go to Wonder Lake.
The mosquitoes were said to be the worst in 30 years the summer of 2013, but when the clouds clear and the "great one" comes out, you will forget the drone of the insects.
If you don't like roughing it, book one of the 2 lodges at the end of the road. Do it a year ahead. If you are just doing a day trip, watch the weather forecast for best odds of seeing the mountain. Note tho that the forecasts are less than accurate in the middle of Alaska and are even more unpredictable since Denali creates it's own weather.

“Beautiful and scenic.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2013

It'll take you 5 hours to get there, you cannot use your personal vehicle, but it is such a gem. We did not see much wildlife at this point as we had coming in, but it's such a symbolic and picturesque place, it was worth the trip.

“Long bus ride into Park”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2013

It's a long bumpy bus ride into Wonder Lake but especially worth it if you're staying overnight. If it's just a day trip, other than seeing the wildlife along the Park road, you don't have much time at Wonder Lake before you have to take the long bus ride back.
