Owner description: Enjoy a warm welcome and experience a true Alaskan lifestyle at Husky Homestead—home of Iditarod Champion, Jeff King. Husky Homestead is widely heralded as an authentic look into rural lifestyles based on 40 years of Alaskan adventures: from freight hauling on Denali to crossing the finish line in Nome, Alaska with a champion Iditarod team. Cuddle puppies upon arrival and share an intimate view of the Alaskan Husky as the team explodes from the dog yard and runs on our treadmill before hitting the trail for a training run. Get a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into creating a championship team and carving a life in Alaska's Interior. Hear compelling stories from the trail and see actual racing sleds, arctic survival gear and equipment used to traverse 1100 miles of Alaska's most rugged terrain. Our 2017 tour season begins May 10th and ends on September 21st. Special Note(s): Dress in warm layers. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring a jacket, gloves and a hat. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by parent or guardian. Outside portion of this tour is approximately 45 minutes, inside portion is approximately 45 minutes. We look forward to meeting you!

“If you like dogs - make this a pilgramage”
Reviewed December 5, 2013

During our 2 week Alaskan adventure, this was one of the top memories we bring home. The King's were great hosts, the puppies and older dogs a delight, and the information in Mr Kings presentation was witty and very interesting. Oh and the t shirt and book provide a lasting remembrance. One of the highlights of Denali.

“ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE!”
Reviewed November 14, 2013

In Denali this place is A MUST SEE! The whole presentation was wonderful from snuggling puppies to watching older dogs show their stuff! All are very well trained and cared for like pets to the King family. The love is palpable in this symbiotic relationship of working person and working dog. Ellie King is not only lovely but presents this sport beautifully and with humor! BUY Jeff's book~loved it! I would have stayed for a couple of months in puppy heaven, but my husband thought I should go home :)! Please don't miss this wonderful place! The Iditarod will mean so much more to me after this!

“Wonderful experience”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

My family of 4 spent a good 2 hours at Jeff King's husky homestead tour this past July, 2013. My 30-year old sons and my husband and I started the tour by cuddling a few weeks old husky puppies. How precious! Then we heard so much information from Jeff King, an Iditarod past winner about how the huskies are trained and about the actual race. We saw huskies of various ages in training and learned so much about the Iditarod race. What a memorable tour!!

“Adds to the Alasks/Denali experience”
Reviewed October 20, 2013

Well, these dogs really are into their job, they are very calm and relaxed until it's sled time, then they get excited! This is their thing and they love it, they're treated very well with great staff. It just adds to the Alaska/Denali experience.

“Husky Homestead - Unadulterated Fun”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

You just can't help smiling after a visit to Husky Homestead. Who can resist holding an Alaskan Husky pup, or experiencing the dogs' excitement as they go through their training exercises? You can feel the energy as an ATV, complete with harnesses to accommodate an eager husky team, becomes a practice "sled" as the dogs are "mushed" through the woods. Picture a giant "Gerbil" exercise wheel and watch the dogs race in place inside it - it's a wild sight.

Meet champion musher Jeff King, owner of Husky Homestead, and share in his experiences of Iditarod racing through an informative and amusing presentation of the race's origin and history.

Visiting the Homestead is worth the money just for the memory of the experience alone.
