Owner description: Enjoy a warm welcome and experience a true Alaskan lifestyle at Husky Homestead—home of Iditarod Champion, Jeff King. Husky Homestead is widely heralded as an authentic look into rural lifestyles based on 40 years of Alaskan adventures: from freight hauling on Denali to crossing the finish line in Nome, Alaska with a champion Iditarod team. Cuddle puppies upon arrival and share an intimate view of the Alaskan Husky as the team explodes from the dog yard and runs on our treadmill before hitting the trail for a training run. Get a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into creating a championship team and carving a life in Alaska's Interior. Hear compelling stories from the trail and see actual racing sleds, arctic survival gear and equipment used to traverse 1100 miles of Alaska's most rugged terrain. Our 2017 tour season begins May 10th and ends on September 21st. Special Note(s): Dress in warm layers. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring a jacket, gloves and a hat. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by parent or guardian. Outside portion of this tour is approximately 45 minutes, inside portion is approximately 45 minutes. We look forward to meeting you!

We learned a lot about Huskies, the Iditarod, and the training it takes to make a championship dog. Of course, holding the puppies was the best! We were very impressed by how well the dogs are treated.

Visited summer training camp of Jeff King Iditarod Champion, "mushing dogs" every where. Puppies galore, beautiful well cared for animals. A complete and most informative presentation from breeding to training to winning the races. Even if you aren't a dog lover you will enjoy this visit.
Final part of presentation is actually Jeff King. He takes you through the "race" and answers any questions you may have. This family loves their dogs and this sport. Go see it.

Literally as soon as you step off the bus they hand you a puppy. The presentation was very interesting. Jeff King and his staff were all so nice. I was smiling the whole time. I didn't want to leave. Highlight of my trip to Alaska! I actually went Sept. 2012, but Trip Advisor didn't give me enough options of dates to choose from.

This was a wonderful activity, door to door pickup, loved learning about the dogs. I highly recommended it.

We just arrived back to McKinley Chalet after spending an evening with enthusiastic dog lovers. The handlers themselves were warm and kind, as were other visitors who shared sloppy kisses with affectionate puppies. Learning about the Alaskan husky and the way a sled dog works, was a real education. A very worthwhile excursion!
