Owner description: Enjoy a warm welcome and experience a true Alaskan lifestyle at Husky Homestead—home of Iditarod Champion, Jeff King. Husky Homestead is widely heralded as an authentic look into rural lifestyles based on 40 years of Alaskan adventures: from freight hauling on Denali to crossing the finish line in Nome, Alaska with a champion Iditarod team. Cuddle puppies upon arrival and share an intimate view of the Alaskan Husky as the team explodes from the dog yard and runs on our treadmill before hitting the trail for a training run. Get a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into creating a championship team and carving a life in Alaska's Interior. Hear compelling stories from the trail and see actual racing sleds, arctic survival gear and equipment used to traverse 1100 miles of Alaska's most rugged terrain. Our 2017 tour season begins May 10th and ends on September 21st. Special Note(s): Dress in warm layers. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring a jacket, gloves and a hat. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by parent or guardian. Outside portion of this tour is approximately 45 minutes, inside portion is approximately 45 minutes. We look forward to meeting you!

The entire Husky Homestead experience was great, but the best part was Jeff's talk about not only mushing, but of REAL life in Alaska. If you don't make this a stop on your Alaska tour, you will have blown it!!!!!!

A trip to Alsaka is not complete without a visit to Jeff King's Husky Homestead. Of course "holding a puppy" is a highlight to this attraction, but Jeff King, his daughter and staff add a wealth of knowledge to what it takes to raise and train a husky sled dog. Since Jeff is a 4 time Iditarod champion, his presentation and stories, were most interesting. He is also an author, so you meet not only a dog sled champion, but an author as well! There is also a sled dog presention which gets of his dogs excited to see which will be chosen for the run. All the animals are loved and cared for most likely better than most children!!!!

Jeff King welcomes guests to his sled dog training facility, and usually the first thing that happens when you get off the bus is they put a puppy in your arms. It's an entertaining look at sled dog racing, and a way to see how excited these dogs are to go racing!

This is a must visit. The puppies are so adorable and cuddly, but you do have to give them up and watch and learn. Jeff's daughter is a wealth of first hand knowledge, great speaker and obvious lover of the dogs. Those dogs love to run, pull a load and show off. Then there is Jeff to tell all about the Iditarod. My sister was feeling ill and still loved every minute of this tour.

If you love dogs, this is a must. If you're interested in dog mushing and want to hear from one of the all-time greats in the sport, then definitely go see Jeff King's kennels. Great demonstrations on how the dogs are trained.

They offer pickups from several hotels and lodges in the area, and attendees go to/from the Homestead on large tour vans.

Warning: Be prepared to fall in love with the puppies.
