“Fabulous considering its location!”
Reviewed August 14, 2013

We were not sure what to expect in the middle of the exremely hot Death Valley, but this place was brilliant. Lovely spacious twin queen bedded room with much needed air conditioning and ceiling fans. There was plenty to do there if you could stand the heat, but we did very little!
We found the staff to be very pleasant - don't know how they can stand such temperatures!
We ate at the ranch (captive audience), but it was very nice.
All in al would recommend it, but you haven't got n awful lot of choice!!!

I liked the idea of being on a Ranch...that was a bit fun and added to the experience.
And being in the middle of the desert made for an interesting experience too. The location was great, a short drive to all the nearby sights within Death Valley NP.

The staff in the whole establishment were not the most friendly, but were okay.
We had a room that was in a block and I thought it was quite basic. There is air-con and a a very low-hanging ceiling fan (you don't want to throw your hands in the air!). But there was a fridge.

The restaurant and general store were very over priced as they have a monopoly on the area.

Room Tip: Apparently the Ranch Rooms are nicer

stayed at the ranch. Friendly staff but it takes quite long to check in. Big supermarket where you can buy lots of different things and prices weren't too high. Rooms are nice but not too big. We stayed on the 2nd floor with a balcony overlooking a golf course. At night it is quite dark. Enough parking space but sometimes you have to walk a bit. There is a guest laundry which was very easy.

Firstly, Death Valley is the most amazing place to visit and well worth a minimum of two days. We stayed in one of the deluxe rooms at the ranch. The room was very pleasant and had a reasonably efficient air conditioning unit (which was an absolute must as the temperatures were in excess of 112°F). our deluxe room was well-positioned with doors that opened out across the grass and a short walk to the beautiful spring fed swimming pool. The temperature of the water in the pool is just fabulous and the water is so soft it's unbelievable.

All in all the hotel and the facilities are limited but fairly good. The one major disappointment was the really poor levels of service in both the restaurants that we tried in the 49'er and the Corkscrew Saloon. The attitude of the staff in both restaurants was really poor, the wait for the food was very long and the service charge of 15% is automatically added to the bill which in our opinion is a pretty good explanation as to why the service was so poor.

We also tried out the golf course which was expensive and actually a really good quality course, however would definitely suggesting off as early as possible and no later than 7 AM which was perfect. If you're only looking to play nine holes I suggest you book can pay direct at the pro shop in the morning as the online booking system only allows you to pay for 18 which is a bit expensive and you may not make the full 18! Also take loads of water and a towel!

We love to drive to Death Valley and swim in the pool at the ranch pool. However, they need to do a few more improvements to make this place really PERFECT. It needs more patio coverage around the pool for shade and the pool handles need handle covers. It registered 120 yesterday and trying to get out of the pool without burning your hands was almost impossible.

Otherwise, just simply Devine!

Room Tip: Stay at the inn if possible, but the ranch is also quite acceptable.

We arrived here a day late, after gettting lost near China Lake. THe desk clerk was rude and very patronising. Luckily another clerk saved the day and honoured our booking. The hotel rooms are clean, spacious and have glorious views over the hills and golf course. Its a fair trek in extreme heat to the restaurants, but once there, the food is very good and very reasonably priced. The deck area is wonderfully cooled by a mist system, its a must in that heat.
We liked this hotel, we loved the area and will definately be returning.

Room Tip: All rooms are good

We stayed in one of the cabins, which we learned were moved here from the Hoover Dam construction site following the dam's completion in the 1930s. They are duplex units, more like a motel room than free-standing cabins. For a short visit, the cabins were OK, but would be too small for more than a night or two. Too bad the heat didn't allow us to sit out on the porch at all.

We ate dinner at the Resort's Wrangler Buffet; the food was overpriced and overcooked. We ate breakfast the next morning and dinner that night at the Café; only modestly better in price or quality. But you really don't have any other options.

Room Tip: Liked the history of the cabins, but the modern rooms may be more comfortable.
