“Background for the valley”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

The Panamints are there, sometimes snowcapped, as a backdrop behind Badwater, Zabriskie Point and the rest of western Death Valley. They rise majestically above the valley floor, and we drove over them on Hwy. 190 to leave the park.

“Panamint Mountains”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

It was a vast area looking to the left as we drove many miles thru the desert area. It's a training area for China Lake Naval Base and a jet flew right beside us at 100 feet off the ground and made it so special. Pretty area , pretty mountains....

“Cool hike”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

If you get a little warm in the Valley, go up into the mountains!
You can try the Telescope Peak trail. 14 mies round trip, bu tyou can turn back any time. The first couple of miles are through pines and have great views of the Valley floor. Just make sure you have a 4 wheel drive vehicle to navigate the "road" between Rosewood Campground and Mahogany Flat!

“A stunning drive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2012

We headed west out of the Valley to visit Manzanar without knowing how beautiful these mountains were to drive through. The shapes and colors are unlike anything here in Pennsylvania and were a pleasant surprise on our drive. Lots of photo ops. Don't expect to move quickly as this is a true mountain road and there will be lots of sightseers and some large vehicles. Take your time and enjoy the drive.

“From Mountains to Desert”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2012

I love this drive with the contrast of coming from the Sierra Nevada and climbing and dropping into the floor of the desert and the park. I have been in 100 degree weather and snow in an hour. The views and the drive are curvy and changing and well worth the time. I found that the drive through the park to go to Vegas is far more interesting then most alternative drives and the that depending on the time of year and the light it changes each time.
