This place was fine and definitely a good place to stop to rest and recover from the heat and dust. However the photos on the website of the rooms and hotels are misleading. Our room was fairly clean but very basic. The bathroom was tired and the air conditioner was welcome but it was noisy. So it was a little expensive for what it was. However I guess there isn't much else around. The general store was great though and had plenty of snacks and drinks to restock the car for the trip.

Hi and thank you for your feedback! We are pleased to have been part of your visit to Death Valley National Park. Stovepipe Wells Village is a family-oriented property that strives to capture a rustic feel while offering modern amenities like individual AC units in each room. They can be a bit noisy as you mention but especially during our summer months when temperatures reach upwards of 120F, the cool, comfortable climates inside each room, I am sure you discovered they are a welcome respite from the harsh sun after a day in the park. I am so glad that you stopped into our General Store. With a wide variety of supplies, souvenirs, and the lowest gas prices in the area, we provide Hotel guests and pass-through travelers with an opportunity to stock up for their journey across Death Valley.
Thank you for making Stovepipe Wells Village your lodging choice and we hope to host your next stay in Death Valley!

Overall we enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Room was clean, bed was comfortable, we had a nice view, and it was a quiet atmosphere. Electrical outlet is set about 5 feet from the mirror so that was a challenge. We arrived at 2:00 and were told check-in doesn't start until 4. Not sure why they don't check people in early if there is a room ready but I know policy tends to prevail. We went back at 3:58, saw a full lobby with people just sitting and waiting, and were told we needed to wait two minutes for check in. That seemed a bit ridiculous and we said so so they went ahead and checked us in. We were told and read in their literature that the gift shop was open until 8 pm but when we went at 4:30 it was closed for a dinner break. When we went back at 5:30 the sign indicated it was closed until the following day. Also, sign said that the restaurant was open at 5:30 but at 5:40 the door was locked. We ate in the saloon. Food was good, pricey, but that was expected. The service from the gift shop attendant when we were there earlier was awesome! We really enjoyed talking to her. The server was also very friendly. All in all it was a pleasant stay. There was a big dust storm and subsequent accident forcing a road closure on the west side of the park so I wonder if that might be why the gift shop and restaurant were closed when we tried to access them.

Hi and thank you for your recent stay with us. You mentioned the dust storm conditions that ultimately closed road access so we are glad that you were the other side of that unfortunate situation. We completely understand that our guests are excited to get into their rooms upon arrival at Stovepipe Wells Village- especially in the very hot temperatures we experience. Our amazing Housekeeping staff takes great pride in their work, ensuring that every guest’s room to is clean and comfortable, which means all rooms must be thoroughly inspected prior to check-in for all guests and this requires that we set guidelines for check-in. I hope that our friendly Lodging staff offered you alternatives while you waited, such as a refreshing drink or delicious appetizer in our Badwater Saloon or a dip in our outdoor pool surrounded by the beauty of Death Valley. In terms of our gift shop, also known as The Nugget, we apologize for the inconvenience. This smaller gift shop adjacent to the Business Center, is a smaller version of our General Store, located directly across the street from the Hotel. In either location, we carry a large selection of Death Valley souvenirs, including handcrafted Native American jewelry and other handcrafted gifts. It sounds like you were able to experience the welcoming, enthusiastic attitude of staff across Stovepipe Wells Village and that is ultimately one of our most valued assets. Our staff appreciate the unique and breathtaking environment that surrounds our Hotel and it shows in their customer service at every turn.
We look forward to hosting your next visit to Death Valley and thank you again for staying at Stovepipe Wells Village!

Stovepipe Wells is conveniently located inside of Death Valley park. They offer a central location from which to base your adventures. They offer a basic motel-type set-up with an attached bar, restaurant and nearby campground. However, since there are limited beds in the park, the hotel charges a premium for rooms. The location warrants the premium but the room quality and service do not.

My room was fine but a bit tired. The beds were comfortable, the fridge worked and even though my room faced the road, it wasn't too noisy. Our evening meals were good. The breakfast buffet was OK.

The service logistics of the hotel needs work. My large group had to wait 35 minutes for a table in the restaurant. Baffling as the restaurant was largely empty that night. Were they not at full staff? There was a confusion at check-in with a double booking of my room. They tried to 'upgrade' me to a room with an unsuitable bed configuration. The desk clerk just could not figure out how to fix it. In the end, another person in my group just switched rooms with me.

Stay there if....you don't want to camp.

Hello and thanks for taking the time to provide your feedback! We are so glad that you were able to stay with us during your visit to Death Valley National Park. You are right that our location in the heart of Death Valley National Park is optimal for exploring the park and we are proud to provide rustic yet comfortable accommodations complete with full-service dining options. You noted your long wait-time for the restaurant. We definitely apologize for your inconvenience! We spent three nights in March at Stovepipe Wells Village Hotel. The weather was still cool enough that we didn't need air conditioning, even though it was available. The deep west-facing portal kept our room cool as the sun was dropping on our side of the building.

It was nice to be able to park right outside our room… and absolutely wonderful having windows that opened, giving us the pleasure of fresh, cool desert air while we slept.

The room wasn't luxurious in any way, but it certainly was clean, comfortable, well appointed, and reasonably priced.

We enjoyed our stay there and will be back.

Thanks for staying with us at Stovepipe Wells Village! We appreciate your feedback and it sounds like you had great stay in Death Valley National Park. You came during one of the most special times in the park, during the Super Bloom. Although temperatures can still get fairly warm, it sounds like it wasn’t quite time to turn the A/C just yet. Rest assured that if you return during our hottest months, your room will be just as pleasant as our number one priority is the comfort of our guests. Because of the convenient layout of our hotel, our guests can enjoy the convenience of parking just in front of their rooms, as you mentioned.
We look forward to your return visit and thank you again for choosing Stovepipe Wells as your lodging choice in Death Valley.

I visited the DV on the 2016 memorial weekend. Booking was easy breezy. Dining at the Saloon was good. the food was quite tasty as to what I choose to eat. Had a Black Veggie Patty burger and surprisingly, it was very fresh, even the bread along with a pear martini which was quite delicious. I liked the ambience, except for the fact that you can feel the desert dust on the tables.Service was smooth. I also had the chance to lunch at Furnace Creek hotel. However, I saw lot of people including me literally throwing away the food on the tables. Probably Stovepipe wells is good choice for atleast food.
Rooms were clean and tidy and check in was easy.
Thanks

Room Tip: Practically, most of the attractions are next to Furnace creek. Good place for tasty food, less noise and night photography (atleast)
