The hotel and restaurant and bar was what could be expected in Death Valley, country style. Room was overpriced but the view made it good. The airco was very noicy but worked well. Restaurant and bar were good. We will come back.

This place is clearly taking advantage of the "captive audience," so to speak. We found our room to be very small, dark, not clean and definitely not worth the $150+ total price we paid.

The carpet was visibly dirty, the air conditioner was splattered with some type of now dried liquid, there was a dead bug on the wall above the bed and worst of all the shower curtain was smelly and moldy. At that point I asked for the manager to stop by to review the situation. He clearly is not trained in customer service. As I calmly explained the situation he just stood there, he did not acknowledge what I was saying nor apologize. He finally said he would see if there was another room. There was, and we were moved to a larger room (clearly an upgraded room), which was a very nice gesture. However, upon getting settled I noticed that the same issue was present with the shower curtain (moldy and smelly) and the bathtub did not drain, so I was standing in a full tub of dirty water at the end of my shower. Lovely.

The pool area was nice, the store across the street is great. I would not recommend staying here. Drive 30 minutes east and stay in Beatty! Gas is cheaper there too!

The location alone is worth every penny, but you get so much more than that. Extremely helpful and friendly staff combined with every convenience you could possibly need make this the perfect place to stay in Death Valley. The air conditioner was a little noisy, but it didn't effect our sleep at all, and its a very small price to pay to be out of the heat.

My photography group and I only go to Death Valley EVERY YEAR for the past ten years and will ONLY stay at Stovepipe Wells. The new Management have really turned the place around in a good way. The rooms are redone and the staff is well trained...not to mention the great food and saloon. We are able to rent the Auditorium at a great price and stay at a much more reasonable rate than anywhere else in the park. As a previous review said...this does seem to be the best location for star gazing and photographing the night sky. This is the only place to experience Death Valley and really appreciate the park.

Room Tip: If you want a view of the sand dunes, get a room in the far end of the property. It is well worth th...

This motel is ideally situated in a central location at the heart of Death Valley National Park. We arrived there quite late, about 8:30pm. The staff on reception were very hospitable and the room was ample sized and clean. The swimming pool was open until midnight and night swimming was the perfect way to relax after a long day of driving. We ate in the restaurant - the staff here we're particularly friendly to be honest but this is a review of the accomodation not the dining facilities so I wont dwell on that!

After dinner and swimming we went to reception and borrowed their binoculors to look at the stars. We were advised that the best place to see the stars was behind the general store over the road so off we went. Honestly, you can star gaze perfectly well without the binoculars but with them, my oh my, amazing! Who knew there was so much up there! After a while we heard some howling in the the distance and, as it was quite isolated there, we made a retreat! We got in the car and drive a short distance, put the top down on the hired convertable and put the seats back to watch the stars. This experience alone is worth staying in this location for - it would be difficult to get this anywhere else.

Just as a side note - Death Valley sometimes experiences very bad storms, which can impact on the usability of the smaller roads. Reception will be able to advise you of any road closures before you leave if you let them know your plans.

I see other reviewers on here complaining about this and that but in making your decision whether to stay here you need to bear in mind that it is, what it is - a motel in the middle of nowhere. It doesn't claim to be a luxury resort and this is reflected in the price. What you will get for your money is an experience that you wont find anywhere else. I'd love to go back here and would definately recommend it.

P.s. yes the air conditioning units were noisy but they're working hard in extraordinary temperatures and if that's what it takes then its fine with me!

-Good location for overnight stop in Death Valley (would not recommend a longer stay as there is little or nothing to do in the vicinity!)
-Room was clean and modern, with TV, fridge and comfortable bed (I did hear reception staff advising that not all rooms have TVs and fridges, however it appears that ours did)
-Pool was open until midnight and was lovely to relax by it at night
-Wifi was available however only worked intermittently
-Only eating option was their onsite bar/restaurant (same menu for both) - tip of 15% was applied automatically to food order so it felt staff didn't try to earn this, they got both of our orders completely wrong and weren't interested in resolving this - service was slow.
-Price was high given the room and facilities however we enjoyed our stopover here - would have rated higher if it hadn't been so expensive for a very basic room.

Happy to find a hotel room inside the park but they clearly don't care about customers. Receptionist was lousy, rooms were noisy (thanks to the air conditionner); food at the restaurant was awful, service very slow. What we call here a tourist trap.
