“Ideal stopover”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

Stove Pipe Wells is ideal as an overnight stop. We stayed in a king room and apart from the noise from the air con the room was good. It really is in the middle of nowhere but has all facilities on site. On site bar and restaurant were good, but there really is no other choice.

Stove Pipe Wells is a welcoming site as it pops out of the desert as you drive down the solitary 190 road.

Check-in was efficient. As most of the reviews say on here the room was clean and comfortable, and the aircon let you know it was operating!

Dinner in the bar seemed a more relaxing experience than the more clinical restaurant (the menu the same in both). Food was value for money and the beers on tap (Mammoth IPA) were delicious. There was a dart board and a pool table too.

Breakfast was a pay up front deal, which was a strange experience. We went for the continental offer, which was ok. Breakfast was not as friendly as dinner.

The room was fine; bed was comfortable with new bed linen. We switched off the noisy aircon overnight and had the ceiling fan to try to keep us cool.

The room has a fridge (from the 80s) and a coffee machine. There was a voucher for free ice too, to keep the beers cool.

At check out the next morning the duty manager (local to the area) advised a better route to get to Vegas, his advice was brilliant.

If you’re coming down the 395 from Yosemite the Whoa Nellie Deli is a mist for lunch sandwiches, and Bishop seemed the best value for petrol/gas.

Stove Pipe Wells Village is well worth a stop. I've stayed 3 times now and have always been delighted. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable, the facilities - on site shops, saloon, and restaurant - are all good.

Swimming pool is excellent.

This is a real oasis in the middle of the desert.

Okay this place surprised me.

We booked it because it was the only place within 50 miles that was within our time/distance schedule on our road trip. So we booked over the internet without even looking at what was provided.

As we approched Stovepipe Wells, just after sunset, it was with some trepidaton; less than a mile away we could see no sign of lights or life!
However, on rounding the bend, and with great relief, we saw the hotel sign come into view.

The truth is Stovepipe Wells consists only of the hotel on one side of the highway and a gas station/convenience store on the other; plus an RV park and small landing strip; that's it.

The staff were very friendly and check-in easy, which includes a voucher for a free bag of ice from the gas station. Useful when it was 110F.
We had booked a basic motel room, which has two double beds bathroom and a/c. No tv, but we didn't want one.
On checking in we asked if we needed to make a reservation for dinner at the on site restaurant, but were told this was not required. However, they were very busy and clearly understaffed. We waited ten minutes for a table and a further twenty for a glass of water.
That said, the food we eventually got was very good; as was the beer; and the staff were apologetic for the delays which everyone seemed to be experiencing.
Breakfast buffet was less stressful and the choice and quality was good.

There is also a clean and spacious outdoor pool, which was lovely and refreshing for a morning swim.

All in all, we enjoyed our stay in Stovepipe Wells and would definately stop here again; not that you are spoiled for choice in this area!

we overnighted at this hotel on the way to Vegas. Arriving in 106 degrees in the middle of July the temperature did not seem to drop at all. On arrival we were pleased to find our room was air conditioned but this was a very noisy machine, although we could not turn it off for fear of suffocating. Apart from a shop over the road and the bar, the pool was about the only other thing to do and was full of the residents. It was the hottest pool I have ever been in and not really refreshing. The advantage of the temperature meant that our swimming costumes dried in about 20 minutes and we didnt need towels. Dinner was served in the bar and restaurant and was basic but well cooked. We had a slightly unsettled night.and had breakfast which was basic but adequate before setting off through Death Valley towards Vegas.

This was a clean, basic oasis in Death Valley National Park. The rates were on the high side, but I would stay here again in a heartbeat just to be in the park, one of the most beautiful spots on Earth. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room had everything we needed, and dinner in the bar (the restaurant was swamped) was very good - real food, well presented, perfect after watching the sun set over Artist's Palette (a highlight of the valley). I don't know how anyone can live in that heat (112 degrees the day we arrived) and kudos to them for also being able to work!!
I have to say that it was way better than what I expected after looking at their webpage. It's all good.

A terraced hut in the middle of Death Valley. We had a 'deluxe' room which meant that we had a TV. Very basic but clean sheets and towels. Fridge and a token for free bag of ice....a useful touch for the onward journey. Ceiling fan. Air conditioner was extremely loud...like an aircraft taking off. We were on a pre booked self drive and would have preferred to travel through the valley and stay at the other side.We took advice from other reviewers and ate before entering and took food with us....a very good move! There is a well stocked general store but very expensive....$7.49 for a small sandwich. Food is available in the saloon but we didn't sample any. There was a petrol station and free internet here also.

Room Tip: Deluxe room has a TV
