“One of best visited in So. Utah Parks”
Reviewed November 11, 2013

We traveled all 5 national parks in Southern Utah this October and this visitor center was one of best. Given size of center and the park I was impressed with the very informative geologic display of the formation of Capitol Reef. It is such a phenomenon that you have to have some info first before driving into park to enjoy the geomorphology. The movie at the center is a must too, gives you some of the early pioneer history as well. Very nice gift center too, some great maps including the Grand Circle map which I readily bought and was a great supplement throughout our multi park adventure. Be sure to spend the $2 or so for the brochure to guide you down the park's scenic drive. There are so many geologic structures to view that a guide is needed. Signposts are numbered along drive that correspond with the brochure. Fruita is delightful, the little settlement, but don't waste your time in the "store" it was a huge disappointment. Get a lunch in Torrey to bring with you and picnic at the beautiful Fruita park as you enter the park scenic drive (past the visitor center).

“One of the best Visitor's Centers AND National Parks!”
Reviewed October 24, 2013

Great video about the park - don't miss it! Interesting exhibits and lots of interesting gift shop items. The ranger suggested that we take the scenic drive south down the canyon and we were SO GLAD that we did! On this trip we visited Zion, Bryce, Capital Reef, Arches, and Island in the Sky National Parks, and we agreed that the most beautiful was Capitol Reef.

Be sure to drive the scenic drive south from the visitor's center, and walk down from the bottom of the drive to see the petroglyphs. We could have spent much longer here, but were on the way to Arches. Next time, we will plan to stay longer at Capitol Reef.

Tip to those 62 years of age or older: at the visitor center you can buy a lifetime Senior Pass for $10 that gets you into ALL of the national parks as many times as you wish to visit! There is also a free one for disabled citizens, who can enjoy the park from the car and the parking lots/pull outs along the way. The toilets are all wheelchair accessible.

Carry water, wear a hat and good hiking boots or shoes for the trails. Hiking poles are a good addition for the steep and rocky trails you may encounter.

“Goverment Shut Down =Closed Park!”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

Could not get into park due to government shutdown. Very disappointing that citizens have to suffer for lack of wisdom of our leaders. The park itself is beautiful and we wished we could of toured.
