“Very interesting!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2013

We hiked to this spot in the early evening (much cooler and fewer people). It took a while to discern the old/authentic "pioneer" etchings from the modern graffiti. The gorge itself is impressive, especially with the setting sun illuminating to stone domes high above and casting the lower portions into cool shade.

“A Record of the Early Pioneers”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 12, 2013

The Pioneer Register is located on the canyon walls along the Capitol Gorge trail which was the only passable “road” through the Waterpocket Fold till 1962 when Hwy 24 was completed. It is an interesting artifact of history left from the late 19th and early 20th centuries when Mormon pioneers passed through the gorge using this wash as a road and recorded their names and the dates they passed through on the canyon walls. It is fun to see if one can find the oldest date. Too bad that some find it necessary to leave modern signatures behind.

“Cool History”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

Its a cool history to see the names on the rock. When you are at the petroglyphs, look across the canyon for names high on the rock wall. Then further down the canyon are more names.
