Owner description: The National Park Service has renovated and refurnished the Gifford farmhouse as a cultural demonstration site to interpret the early Mormon settlement of the Fruita valley. The house depicts the typical spartan nature of rural Utah farm homes of the early 1900's. In addition to the farmhouse, the Gifford homestead includes a barn, smokehouse, garden, pasture, and rock walls.

We camped at Capitol Reef for a couple of days and we had to stop by the shop every day. We love their salsa, breads, scones and pies. They made our camping dinner tasted so good. Kids love to get homemade ice cream there too. It was a great experience.

Looking around the house doesn't take long but its well worth it. However I would highly recommend doing what we did - skip breakfast in torrey and instead get here early as soon as they open and feast on their coffee, delicious scones and other wonderful edibles. we took our purchases outside and sat on their tables in the garden enjoying our breakfast while taking in the peace and quiet and majestic scenery. what an experience. then we set off for our walk within the park. great day

This is a wonderful little homestead which is half bakery, half micro museum. The one half has some rooms and artifacts to show how it looked "in the day"....somewhere around 1908. The other half is a small bakery with fresh scones and delicious little pies made locally. The location is very clean and the prices very reasonable. It is truly a little gem.
