I was wondering why the parking lot was so empty.
Later when i drove to the visitor center, the Ranger said it may take up to 3 weeks (or more) before it could be deemed safe. Too bad. i was looking forward to it. maybe next time (if there's a next time).

“Well worth the effort”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

Hickman Bridge is a magnificant natural stone bridge some 500-600ft above Highway 24, and about 30-45 minutes walk away (and the same back). There is a good car park at the start of the trail, and the trail is clearly marked, so easy to follow. The chances are that there will be several dozen other people doing the walk at the same time, so it is easy to see where to go! The formation itself is spectacular; and it is well worth taking the walk that goes around behind and above to get the 'other' views.

DO make sure you have a sun hat and plenty of water if it is hot, though. We passed people who seemed to be really suffering because they did not have either appropriate clothing/footwear or had not taken any/sufficient water.

“Closed Due to Rock Fall”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

We were disappointed when we arrived to learn that the popular trail to the Hickman natural bridge was closed due to a major rock fall very close to the trailhead. The rock fall not only closed this trail but also the Navajo Knobs and Rim Overlook trail. At the end of the first week of April, geologists and NPS staff were inspecting the safety of the rock still above the trail and assessing the damage and clean-up required and did not have a projection as to when the trail would be reopened so check with the Visitor Center ahead of time if you are hoping to hike any of these trails.

I looked forward to this, but the walking trail was closed. Probably for season. We were there early April.

“Fun, shorter hike to a larger natural bridge”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

Doable for nearly everyone. Round trip is less than 2 miles with not a huge elevation change. Trailhead is on main highway but you get away from any noise quickly. Views were great.
