Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: A two-mile hike roundtrip leading to an arch.
Reviewed July 5, 2012

The 1 mile trail to Hickman bridge begins in a beautiful spot by the river on Highway 24, just east of the petroglyphs turn-off, and climbs steeply through several switchbacks up the east side of the mountain, where it continues west and then forks. Stay to the left, since the north fork leads to the Rim Overlook and Navajo Knobs. It's a beautiful hike ending under the Hickman Bridge natural arch (which can be seen from above if you go back and hike a short way along the Rim Overlook trail). The best time to hike it is in the afternoon, when the strenuous part of the trail is in shadow.

This is a moderate hike with a few steep climbs to see a big arch, but like many national park hikes, it's not the destination but the journey that makes if fun. Lots of cool rock formations to see, and don't miss the neat tunnel with openes in the ceiling. Good picture spot.

this trail is also quite fascinating and the short hike is very appealing to those who want to get away from the road, but not walk all afternoon. I rank this one up there with cohab canyon and just behind frying pan.

This is a beautiful hike but a little on the hard side.

All information sources from the park stay that only the first part of the trail is moderate and thereafter becomes easy. I have to admit that it's a nice trail but didn't found just the first part moderate. Once you climbed the stairs from the first part (very moderate) the trail flattends out for a good part. But the third section in and out to a dry riverwash isn't easy anymore because you have to walk up and some more stairs and stick-rock. It schold at least be qualifed moderate. And also the section after riverwash till the (loop around the) bridge involved some serious (stair-)climbing, so also at least moderate some parts very moderate.

All in all it is a nice trail and enjoyed very much, but parties with small childeren or people who aren't 100percent fit shouldn't think that the hard part is over after the first section!
