This is a wonderful National Park to get out those hiking poles and see the real estate all Americans can call theirs. There are many hiking trails here that are definately worth exploring. We are seniors (65 & 66) and could do these trails with poles and not too much effort. We did not have time to do all trails, but did get to see the Park via the Scenic Drive and its many overlooks. Well worth seeing this Park while in the area. The location is probably 30-40 minutes from Moab and so worth the trip.

This entrance to the park is 25 miles off the main road (no food, gas, or lodging), but well worth a visit. The views reminded me of the Grand Canyon...after all, the "Island in the Sky is bordered by the Green River to the west and the Colorado River to the east, and the convergence of these two mighty rivers (into the Mighty Colorado that eventually flows into the Grand Canyon) is just South of "Island in the Sky." Although we did no hiking, we did stop at every overlook and easily took four hours savoring every breathtaking, expansive view. Not so well known as the Grand Canyon so there was little traffic. A very special place!

We went to Canyonlands as part of our road trip across national parks Utah. This was undoubtedly our favorite park. The views were breathtaking. It really feels like you're in an era where the dinosaurs roamed the earth. The crowd in this park was much smaller than other parks we visited so it was very relaxing. You could take your time exploring and taking panoramic shots with your camera. The sceneries in this park are very unique so it's definitely worth a visit even if you've toured a number of other national parks within the US already.

Well worth spending the day, stopping at every overview. Couldn't get enough of those massive red rocks, spectacular views. Short drive from Moab - gateway to Canyonlands, Arches National Park, La Sal National Forest, and the cute little Hole in the Rock. Probably best to visit before May or earlier before the heat sets in.

The Island in the Sky Mesa is just what it says. An area of flat land miles long, miles wide, where the surrounding terrain has been eroded, leving it high in the sky. Every overlook offers a different perspective on the park's spectacular landscape. Use the Island to see the most overlook pullouts, along a paved scenic drive.
If you only have 2 hours..... Drive toGrand View Point, Green River Overlook and then hike to Mesa Arch. Refills the soul.
